POSITION TITLE: School Navigator
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Associate Director - Delaware


BASIC FUNCTION: To develop a cohesive, collaborative relationship with school staff,
families, community behavioral health providers, and substance use disorder services to allow
for unified intervention and communication for the sake of overall improvement of students’
educational experience.
Navigation tasks include coordinating communication between school, students, and families and
supporting the youth and family in implementing interventions. The School Navigator position
meets the three prevention strategies of the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP):
Problem Identification and Referral, Prevention Education, and Alternate Activities.


DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
1. Work closely with and support Delaware/Morrow public schools on-site.
2. Work closely with the Delaware-Morrow Mental Health Recovery Services Board to
meet community needs.
3. Increase awareness about PASS programs, service availability, and other community
programs/services.
4. Increase knowledge and provide awareness of available prevention programs and
services.
5. Provide opportunities for the target population to participate in safe and healthy activities
that exclude substance use/misuse.
6. Serves as a liaison with school and community resources, working closely with school
counselors, other school staff/administration, and School Resources Officers to
understand the mental health needs and substance use disorder supports in
Delaware/Morrow County schools.
7. Provide mental health and substance misuse outreach, prevention, and postvention
education, services, and resources in schools for students and families.
8. Remove obstacles and clear pathways for students and families to get the support,
services, and opportunities they need.
9. Prepares various reports as required.
10. Protects school, family, and student confidentiality and safety in accordance with HIPAA
and FERPA.
11. Promotion of SEL/Behavioral Skills and Wellness
12. Attends relevant meetings and training, including school staff meetings.
13. Participates in staff development and program staff meetings.
14. Prepares staff development and training for school staff and parents/guardians.
15. Attend school staffing, student team meetings, teacher-in-service, student suspension
meetings, and IEP/504 meetings as necessary or warranted helpful for 
collaborative communication.

16. Attend student disciplinary hearings.
17. Complete referrals and provide linkages to agency programs, external service providers,
and other community resources for identified needs, as appropriate.
18. Adjusts work hours reasonably to accommodate the needs of students, parents, or school
staff schedules;
19. Assists other personnel in supporting them in the completion of their work activities;
20. Track data and monitor outcomes.
21. Performs other duties as assigned.


REQUIREMENTS:
1. Education: You must have acquired a minimum of an Associate’s Degree or higher in human
services, education, or psychology.
2. Ability to maintain confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA / FERPA.
3. Obtain and maintain Mental Health First Aid certification.
4. Obtain and maintain Ohio Certified Prevention Specialist or Consultant status.
5. Obtain and maintain SBIRT training.
6. Skills: Must be able to communicate effectively-written and verbally. Must have the ability to
assist and relate to a diverse population
7. Must have a valid Ohio driver’s license, current vehicle insurance and access to a privately owned
vehicle during scheduled work hours
8. Computer skills: The ability to check electronic mail and enter data into program-specific
software are required
9. Willingness to drive in the Delaware/Morrow community and between the school districts


PREFERENCE
1. Strong relationship with school systems or deep understanding of interworking of school climate.
2. Understanding of tier 1 prevention strategies.
ADA REQUIREMENTS:
1. Some bending and stretching are required.
2. Being able to stand for 2 hours at a time.
3. Must be able to lift to 20 lbs.
