About the Opportunity

The Nuclear Unit Supervisor In Training must complete Initial License Training class at Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station, in Oak Harbor, Ohio. Upon completion of training, the successful candidate will obtain and maintain a Senior Reactor Operator (SRO) license. As an SRO, you will be responsible for the safe and reliable operation of the Davis-Besse nuclear reactor, as well as protecting the health and safety of the public and the environment. This responsibility includes working a rotating shift schedule (midnights, days and afternoons) that covers operations 24 hours a day, including weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervising and directing both licensed and non-licensed operators in the routine activities of operating a nuclear power plant and testing various components and equipment in accordance with approved procedures
  • Providing direct supervision of control room activities to maintain a quiet, professional atmosphere
  • Coordinating with other departments in the maintenance and testing of plant components and equipment
  • Responding to abnormal, transient and accident conditions. Implementing the Emergency Preparedness Plan and performing the duties of the Emergency Director (in the absence of the Shift Manager) until relieved by higher line management
  • Successful completion of the activities required to obtain a Senior Reactor Operators License (SRO)
  • Must pass the NRC Generic Fundamentals test
  • Must pass Systems Training
  • Must pass Abnormal Procedure Training
  • Must perform shift watches under instruction
  • Must obtain Qualification Card sign-offs
  • Must pass Simulator Training
  • Successfully obtain a NRC issued SRO license for the site specific plant where candidate attended training
  • Performing Emergency Response Organization (ERO) duties as assigned

ANSI Qualifications

  • Shall have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Should possess a high degree of manual dexterity and mature judgment
  • Shall have two years of power plant experience of which a minimum of one year shall be nuclear power plant experience (ANSI N18.1-1971, Section 4.5.1)


Additional Qualifications:

  • Reside within site-specific ERO response time
  • Must be able to work rotating shift schedules that cover operations twenty-four hours/day, seven days/week


Preferred Qualifications

  • One of the following technical qualifications must be met to qualify for the SRO license training program:
    • Holds a Reactor Operator License from a comparable facility with a Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) - same vendor and vintage - and have performed active licensed duties for at least one year
    • Holds a Reactor Operator License from a non-comparable PWR facility and have performed active licensed duties for at least 1.5 years
    • Has two years of supervisory experience at a military reactor in one of the following positions: Reactor Operator, Engineering Officer of the Watch, Propulsion Plant Watch Officer, Engineering Watch Supervisor or Propulsion Plant Watch Supervisor
    • Completed SRO equivalent training, received an SRO certification and performed instructor duties for at least four years at a comparable facility or for six years at a non-comparable facility
    • Holds a Bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology or physical sciences, or holds a Professional Engineer's (PE) license and has 18 months of experience as a manager, supervisor, staff engineer or qualified non-licensed operator as defined below:
  • Power Plant Staff Experience: Responsible for the coordination and implementation of plant equipment controls, integrated operations procedures, operations, maintenance, radiological support, modifications, maintenance planning, work control, chemistry or accredited training at the current or a comparable PWR facility.
  • Non-Licensed Operator Experience: Qualified for all Power Block and Safety Systems at the plant or comparable facility
  • Exhibits a high degree of nuclear professionalism
  • Possesses an understanding of nuclear safety principles
  • Possesses good judgment, personal integrity, leadership ability, a sense of empowerment and motivation to drive excellence in performance
  • Possesses a sound, basic knowledge of engineering fundamentals and the ability to learn in a fast-paced program
  • 3 years of previous leadership experience
