LOQW currently has a job opening in the Kirksville, Mo area for Direct Support Professional (DSP).
Positive Vision & Overall Purpose of Position
The DSP is responsible for the direct support with community life engagement, volunteering and employment placement & coaching as needed to individuals with disabilities. The DSP assists with implementing and following the person centered plan to include following the individuals vision of a good life.
Reports To: Community Specialist Supervisor
Classification: Nonexempt - Full Time position (30 + hours per week)
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required with work experience, prefer 4 year degree from accredited college
- Must have a current valid driver's license and be willing to obtain a Class E (Chauffeur's) license immediately upon hire
- Must possess a reliable vehicle and maintain it safely and provide proof of personal vehicle insurance
- Ability to pass all appropriate and required background screenings
- Ability to work flexible hours to accommodate the needs of our customers
- Ability to use technology to complete required documentation

Essential Functions of the Position:
- Provide appropriate assistance for the person to access existing community resources
- Provide support to individuals with disabilities in their home and community settings
- Tasks may include development of daily living skills such as: learn to budget money, shop, explore new hobbies and interests, cooking, and home management etc.
- Supporting an individuals career planning and discovery of talent
- Provide on the job support / coaching to employees with disabilities in assisting with developing their skills needed to perform job duties
- Develop relationships with employers and act as a mediator as needed between the employer and the employee
- Successfully utilizes a variety of instructional strategies that match the person’s preferences and learning style
- Ability to communicate and articulate information
- Explores and implements assistive technology to increase the individuals independence
- Maintains appropriate records such as daily progress notes and activity records
- Strongly respects confidentiality of individuals served and maintains privacy
