AWARE is looking for the right person to join the Therapeutic Recreation Program as a Therapeutic Recreation Service Technician.

Under the direction of the Therapeutic Recreation Program Director, the Therapeutic Recreation Technician (TRT) plans, organizes and implements individualized, structured therapeutic activities that meet client/resident/student personal goals, aspirations and preferences. Activities may be located in the client’s home, group home or in the community as an individualized session or may incorporate more than one client with similar goals within a group setting. Leisure, recreational, educational and lifestyle activities will align with pertinent assessment findings and oversight to meet functional outcomes.


Examples of activities may include sports, outdoor recreation, community integration, fitness, health and wellness, hobby, creative expression, social skills and relationship building, independent living, leisure and recreation skill development.

The TRT will assist in communicating the effects of the assigned interventions to determine whether objectives have been achieved or need to be modified or discontinued. TRT will also assist in providing data to determine the need for program adaptation or supports to assist in accomplishment of objectives by the client/resident/student.


Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Ability to work independently in assigned location/ region
  • Ability to travel via personal vehicle or AWARE vehicle to client or service area
  • Experience leading and instructing participants in gaining life skills
  • Experience in planning and leading recreational activities
  • Implements interventions that are sensitive to the client age, cultural background, stage of development, limitations of disabling conditions, skill and experience level.
  • Role model by demonstrating and engaging in activities alongside client to help promote positive lifestyle skills
  • Assist TRPD in creating protocols for interventions that include short term goals and criteria for assignment
  • Observe client response to intervention to verbally communicate and collaborate with TRPD and treatment team members
  • Document outcomes of the intervention in EHR per policy to provide evidence for TRPD needed for evaluation of TR program effectiveness.
  • At time of transition or discharge, provides TRPD with client information to assist in formulating a transition/ discharge plan.

Requirements:


Required Skills, Abilities & Education:

  • A High School Diploma or HSE is required, along with past employment experience
  • Valid Montana Driver’s License.
