Starting Compensation:

Peer Support Specialist I: $16.65 - $19.14 per hour based on experience.

Certified Peer Support Specialist II: $18.08 - $20.79 per hour based on experience.

Role:

Regular part-time (20 hours per week) position as Peer Support Specialist for adults with serious mental illness and chronic physical health conditions. Peer Support Specialist assists consumers in accessing community resources and healthcare services, supports consumers in developing recovery plans and provides education on wellness and recovery from mental illness, substance use and chronic health conditions. Peer Support Specialist advocates for and enhances acceptance of individuals with mental illness in the community. Services are primarily provided with consumers in healthcare settings and in the community. Peer Support Specialist facilitates care coordination activities with mental health and medical providers as a part of a multidisciplinary team. Peer Support Specialist must be comfortable in working in medical settings, advocating for medical needs and teaming with integrated health professionals. Peer Support Specialist will provide health coaching and facilitate health groups to focus on education and skill-building in all areas of health and wellness. Peer Support Specialists work under the supervision of the Mental Health Program Director and Program Coordinator.

Some knowledge of the mental health field, healthcare systems and community resources required. Ability to work as part of a team of professionals in a public mental health setting and in a medical setting required. Experience as a medical assistant is desirable. Ability to enter data efficiently and accurately into an electronic medical record.

Job Specific Requirements:

Peer Support I and II:

High school diploma required.

Experience as a primary consumer in the mental health field required.

Experience as a certified nursing assistant or medical assistant preferred.

Valid MI driver's license required.

Some evening or weekend hours may be required.

Certified Peer Support II: Prior state training and Michigan certification as a Peer Support Specialist
