Job description

  • Responsible for performing day to day operations of Summer Zoo Camp.
  • The Zoo Camp Counselor position will perform all scheduled shifts as necessary or directed that they are qualified to do.
  • The Education Department will communicate with the animal department staff via daily logbook and report all incidents. Camp begins on June 6 and lasts for 6 weeks.
  • Counselors will begin at least 2 weeks prior to the start of camp to become familiar with the facility, animals, and material.

Primary Duties:

· Know all Procedures for opening and closing Education Building as well as all safety protocols for campers and animals.

· Know the material for Camp Itineraries and lessons.

· Know department policies and procedures.

· Record required hours of training to handle and work with animals.

· Record in daily logs and read daily logs.

· Know Company policy and procedures(handbook).

· Complete and signed off on Animal Safety Training.

· Know all facts of animals being used in Education areas.

· Exhibit compatibility with teammates and guest children in Education Programs.

· Care for artifacts in Education Collection.

· Perform offsite programs.

· Assists in developing educational programs about plants, animals, and conservation.

· Manage campers in groups of 10 or more at a time safely and calmly.

· Must perform unmatched customer service.

Secondary Duties:

· Must be able to work zoo camp work week (Monday-Friday).

· Communicates to Lead/Supervisor on daily basis.

· Reports all incidents.

· Keep a clean, professional look.

· Follow revenue goals

Education, experience and specialized skills and knowledge requirements:

  • 2-year Biology or Zoology degree preferred,
  • 2 years professional experience in Animal Education Industry preferred,
  • 2 years formal

Education Experience may be supplemented.

  • 1 year professional experience in Exotic Animal Husbandry preferred.
  • Requires skills in public speaking, understanding animal behavior, and applying behavioral conditioning. Exhibits good problem solving skills. Exhibits great communication skills.
  • Must be physically able to perform above duties without any physical limitations. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Must pass completed L2 background check.Job 
  • Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)

Education:

• Associate (Preferred)

License/Certification: • Driver's License (Preferred)
