Title: Biologist I

Supervisor: President

Department: Operations

FLSA Status: Exempt / Salaried

Summary/Objective

The Biologist I will be responsible for monitoring and evaluating the environmental conditions and make impact assessments for various projects that the company is undergoing. You will also participate in field work related to the studies while monitoring and collecting samples for research purposes.

As the Biologist I, you must ensure that various project requirements are met. Visiting and inspecting the various projects assigned is imperative to the success of this position to gather a firm understanding and advise management and clients clearly and accurately.

Essential Functions

  • Provides expert recommendations to the leadership team based on assessment of the environmental impact studies conducted.
  • Work with teams to develop and coordinate biological and general environmental compliance insight during project planning and execution.
  • Assist in the development of all biological management plans, state wide asset inventories of biological resources, and efforts to improve management and sustainability of natural resources.
  • Develop and execute on best management practices and standards for conservation and sustainability measures.
  • Establishing frequent communication with contractors, customers and clients on important status updates to ensure smooth, swift and successful project completion.
  • Perform field work associated with native plant salvage, maintenance and monitoring.
  • Perform biological monitoring for T&E species, both flora and fauna.
  • Follow standard procedure for nursery maintenance.
  • Learn and develop in all aspects of natural resource conservation and maintenance, including plant maintenance, irrigation, tree planting, T&E monitoring and salvage, etc.

Competencies and Basic Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in applicable field required. Master’s degree and above preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in related field/consulting required.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Ability to thrive at work under minimal supervision or direction.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong problem-solving, attention to detail, and leadership skills.
  • Strong work ethic and positive attitude is required.
  • Ability to adapt to changing environments.
  • Actively listening and participating in high level discussions.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Project Management experience a plus.
  • Proficiency in ArcGis.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position may or may not have supervisory responsibilities based on project requirements and specifications.

Work Environment

This position operates in both a professional office and field environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. In addition, you will be required to travel between multiple job sites by car. Working in outdoor, humid conditions to work on and assess job sites is also frequent in this position. Position entails ~70% fieldwork and ~30% office work.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and or as required to deliver the objectives.
