Equipment Technician

Okeanus Science & Technology, LLC provides the latest oceanographic and marine scientific equipment for nearshore and offshore projects around the world through sales and rental. The Equipment Technician will play a vital role in the day-to-day operations that allows Okeanus to supply high quality oceanographic and hydrographic rental equipment to the Oil and Gas, Offshore Wind Energy, Deep Ocean Mining, Oceanographic Research, and Defense markets worldwide. This position will be based out of Okeanus’ Houma, LA facility.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • This position will report directly to the company’s Rental Operations Supervisor
  • Follow all company Environmental and Safety Guidelines to promote a safe and healthy work environment
  • Assist with mobilization efforts of rental assets adhering to tight deadlines and company quality management systems
  • Prepare equipment for domestic and international shipping using best practices to ensure equipment travels safely to project locations
  • Receive returning rental equipment, inspect and identify any missing items or deficiencies requiring repair
  • Work closely with other operational staff to ensure all rental equipment is in ready condition for any rental opportunities
  • Assist with “after hours” calls and be readily available to mobilize equipment on short notice including nights and weekends
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance and cleaning of electro-hydraulic winches, hydraulic power units, various deck equipment and hydrographic/oceanographic research equipment
  • Ensure all facilities are kept in a clean and orderly state to promote a safe and productive work environment
  • Travel to customer work locations to provide troubleshooting and repair services of rental equipment as well as customer owned equipment, including but not limited to international travel
  • Travel to other Okeanus facilities to assist with ongoing operations from time to time
  • Safely operate various types and sizes of forklifts to aid in the moving, loading, and unloading of equipment
  • Maintain inventory of spare parts for various types of equipment to include inventory totals and advise supervisor of any spares to be purchased

Knowledge and Qualifications

  • High School diploma (2-year trade school in electrical, diesel/automotive mechanics, or machinery preferred)
  • 2-4 years’ experience working with electrical instrumentation, electronics, hydraulic power systems, towing/lifting winches preferred
  • Welding/Fabrication experience is desirable
  • Must hold valid state issued driver's license with clean driving record
  • Must pass DOT drug screen
  • Have or able to obtain valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
  • Have or able to obtain valid US Passport
  • Ability to self-manage and work with limited supervision
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lb. unassisted
  • Ability to work varying schedule to ensure project goals and deadlines are met
  • Willing to work nights and weekends as required
  • Willing to travel both domestic and internationally
