Purpose

To oversee general accounting operations by controlling and verifying financial transactions.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Direction

  • Perform work under very limited supervision requiring the need to exercise independent judgement and discretion on a regular or frequent basis.
  • The position does not include direct supervisory responsibilities but will serve as a lead/resource among team of colleagues (staff accountants and other accounting team members) to share technical proficiency, guidance, and mentorship. May occasionally assist in delegation of assignments or provide feedback to managers.

At the Operational and Company Level

  • Assist with the development, implementation of and monitoring adherence to company accounting policies and procedures.
  • Identify, research, and resolve corporate accounting, auditing, and operational issues.
  • Work with other internal departments regarding accounting matters.

Do the Work

  • Reconcile labor to include recording payroll, job costing, managing business unit cross charging and providing analysis on actuals versus forecast to the management team.
  • Managing benefit liability accounts and bi-weekly HSA funding. Working with HR to resolve discrepancies.
  • Perform intercompany monthly entries and reconciliations.
  • Assist with month-end closing, including reconciling the general ledger accounts.
  • Develop and analyze internal monthly financial statements and year-end audit financial statements.
  • Assist with financial audit preparation and responses including annual external audit, bank audits, 401(k) audit and other audits as required.
  • Cross-train within accounting function.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement.
  • Assist Controller with special projects to facilitate the effective functioning of the Finance Department.

Education, Work Experience, Licensure/Certifications, and Technical Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field required.
  • Relevant certification (e.g., CMA or CPA) preferred but not required.
  • Minimum of five to seven (5-7) years of corporate accounting experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of GAAP.
  • Knowledge of Deltek Vision preferred, experience with an ERP system required.
  • Must have AP full cycle exposure.
  • Prior architecture, engineering, and/or construction accounting experience preferred.
  • Previous experience with mergers and acquisitions is a plus.
  • Ability to analyze and research accounting data.

  • Eligible for remote work arrangements.
  • Primarily indoor professional office environment which may include bright/dim light, noise, fumes, odors, and traffic.
  • Mobility around an office environment.
  • Frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
  • Occasional lifting or carrying up to 20 pounds.
  • Occasional pushing or pulling up to 20 pounds.
  • Occasional reaching outward or above shoulder.
