Summit County, located in Utah, is recruiting for a part-time County Investigator. Performs a wide range of investigative duties for the County Attorney’s Office and for other outside agencies when requested and approved by the County Attorney. Works under general supervision of the County Attorney and the Chief Civil Deputy County Attorney or Chief Prosecutor. We are a drug free workplace conducting drug testing. Salary Range: $33.52 per hour

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduation from college or university with a bachelor’s degree in political science, criminology, or related field and successful completion of Peace Officers Standards and Training Academy (P.O.S.T.) or equivalent; AND
  • Five (5) years of investigative experience demonstrating increasing responsibility and understanding of legal and/or administrative work; AND
  • Successful completion and graduation of the Advanced Officer course offered through (P.O.S.T.) (can be completed within 6 months of date of hire).
  • Training and certification as a FIT Interviewer through the Utah Attorney General’s Office (can be done within 6 months of date of hire). OR
  • A combination of equivalent education and experience.
  • Must successfully pass a Summit County Sheriff’s Office background investigation.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of employment.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen, and be able to read and write the English language.
  • Must possess, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid Utah Driver’s License without record of suspension or revocation in any State.
  • Must be willing to work 24 hour on-call.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Investigate and provide investigatory follow-up on crimes, and prepare reports for prosecution of criminal cases. Coordinate continued investigation on insufficient cases with other law enforcement agencies. Where appropriate, arrest persons committing offenses.
  • Coordinate with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies in resolution of crime.
  • Investigate Officer Involved Critical Incidents and investigate allegations of misconduct on the part of public agencies and their employees. Investigates and prepares reports related to personnel, civil investigations, and internal investigations as directed by the County Attorney.
  • May prepare facts, information, evidence and statements for court proceedings; secure witnesses and testimonies; prepare visual diagrams of the scene of crime as deemed necessary; assist attorneys in the preparation of court cases, extraditions.
  • Attend court proceedings; offer testimony regarding various criminal and traffic cases; respond and appear at federal proceedings upon being subpoenaed.
  • Interview children at the Children’s Justice Center of Summit County when allegations of child maltreatment are reported; maintain training, peer review and certification in FIT Interview techniques.
  • Perform as a credible witness in a court of law.
  • Assist the County Attorney as a Public Information Officer.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
