What You Will Do:

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Structural Engineer to join our growing team. This role is primarily responsible for leading a team to perform the design and analysis of structural elements and systems for a variety of project types, in different industries such as manufacturing, distribution, data centers, commercial, historical, adaptive reuse, and renovations. The Senior Engineer serves as the technical specialist and also mentors and trains junior and mid-level team members. The growth path for this role could consist of a Specialist or a Leadership route.

This position is part of our Charlotte team. This office is full of people ready to support your growth and development.

Responsibilities:

  • Interacts with clients attending client, architect, and contractor meetings, reviewing structural documentation, and supervising/mentoring junior staff.
  • Oversight of design calculations, preparation of the construction documents, reviewing shop drawings and submittals, site reviews, and RFI responses.
  • Coordinates information across all disciplines to ensure deliverables are compliant with client expectations and Bennett & Pless quality levels.
  • Performs QA/QC of work performed by others.
  • Mentors and provides oversight to engineering team. Responsible for the learning, professional development, and growth of the assigned team, as well as training and career development.

What We Are Looking For:

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required, Master’s degree preferred.
  • Active Professional Engineer license.
  • 15+ years’ experience required in structural engineering.
  • Experience with industry standard software, including but not limited to ETABS, SAFE, SAP, Microsoft products, Bentley (RAM) products, RISA, EnerCalc, Adapt, Tekla, etc.
  • Project management experience/ability is required.
  • Structural design experience utilizing different construction materials and structural systems; including but not limited to steel, concrete, and masonry design in low to mid-rise structures.
  • Working knowledge of Revit is preferred.
  • Client management experience is preferred.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment, manage multiple projects, tasks, and deadlines, and bring each to completion.
  • Must be a self-starter and always willing to listen, learn, and improve.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written are required.
  • Must demonstrate team leadership ability, and ability to train and mentor younger engineers.
