Exceptional Persons, Inc. has a full-time opportunity available for a Guardian Representative.  As a Guardian Representative you will play a crucial role advocating for the best interests of persons with developmental and intellectual disabilities, mental health issues, or other health challenges.  You will provide support, guidance, and assistance in navigating various legal, medical and social systems, fostering effective communication and collaboration to ensure the needs of the individual are met and their voice is heard.

  • Identify and support, as appropriate, person served preferences in lifestyle and decision making.
  • Advocate for and monitor appropriate support services, such as residential, educational, work, medical and community services.
  • Maintain regularly needed direct contact with persons served, families and service providers.
  • Follows all guardianship laws in the Iowa Code.
  • Provide information about guardianship, estate planning, trusts and wills, as appropriate.
  • Process applications for guardianship.
  • Participate in the development of the individual’s life plan.
  • Provide public awareness, education, and advocacy about the needs of individuals with disabilities.
  • Make Annual Reports to the Court regarding the condition of protected persons and services provided to them. Obtain Court orders as required.
  • Use personal vehicle to visit and transport protected persons in the community, both locally and across Iowa.

  • Nimble to individual's and agency needs with flexibility in schedule to participate in events, training and meetings and support person served, which may include evening and weekends.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, counseling, or related field.
  • At least two (2) years' experience of planning, delivering, and coordinating services for individuals with disabilities. 
  • Equivalent combination of education/experience will be considered.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, good driving record, and current vehicle insurance coverage, which meet the specified requirements of EPI’s Driving Policy.
  • Ability to pass extensive background checks including but not limited to criminal, abuse and Medicaid exclusion.
