Job Description

Miami Valley Child Development Centers is a non-profit Head Start and Early Head Start program that focuses on providing early learning experiences to prepare children for kindergarten and school success. We serve children from birth to five years.

CLASSIFICATION: Work an average of 10 hours weekly. Part Time. Non-Exempt

BASIC FUNCTIONS: Work in the classroom with children Ensure compliance with the Head Start Performance Standards and MVCDC Service Plans, Policies and Procedures. Assist with maintaining a safe, healthy environment that is developmentally appropriate for classroom children. Ensures compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, Ohio Department of Job and Family Services Licensing, USDA, Health and Sanitation, and MVCDC Regulations, Policies and Procedures.

MINIMUM CREDENTIALS: High School diploma/GED. (Education assistance for CDA or AA degree in Early Childhood Education available when transferring to a Full-time position).

SUPERVISOR: Child & Family Services Supervisor

Location: Centers across Clark County

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

- Physically able to work with infant, toddler, and preschool children.

- Sit on floor with children; sit on a child size chair and at the child size tables.

- Bend from knee and waist to talk to the children at their eye level (bend, stoop and squat).

- Climb multiple stairs; participate in community walks; participate in physical outdoor play.

- Participate with children in movement activities such as running, climbing, exercises, etc.

- Lift a pre-school child weighing up to 50 pounds.

- Speak clearly so children can understand.

- Observe children’s actions and hear children’s voices (verbalization).

PRINCIPAL FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Carry forth the Mission, Vision and Core Values of MVCDC; support the quality management principles; and work toward the agency and program goals

2. Responsible for ensuring the safety and active supervision of children during all parts of the daily routine to minimize the potential for children being left alone and/or unsupervised.

3. Assists with the children’s arrival time routine – removal of children’s coats, boots, hats, etc.

4. Assists with mealtime – help children wash hands, set the table, serve themselves, clean-up spills, encourage children to eat by talking about the food served, act as a role model by eating with the children, assists in toileting and tooth brushing after meals.

5. Assist with planning and work time – help a child begin with their plans, help a child implement their plans, help children select materials, encourage children to clean up as they finish one plan and move on to another.

6. Assists with recall and small group time – listen to children as they recall activities, encourage children to share ideas, participate with children during active physical play, participate in group activity (circle time).

7. Assists children with departure – help put on coats, hats, boots, etc.; give children pictures, papers, notes etc. to take home.

8. Adhere to rules, laws and guidelines as defined in the MVCDC Policies and Procedures, ODJFS Regulations and the Head Start Performance Standards.

9. Adhere to the agency confidentiality and attendance policy.

10. Represent MVCDC in professional dress and manner.

11. Performs other duties as assigned to assist in providing quality services to children and families.
