Summary

Responsible for the development and implementation of curriculum according to Julia Days'
philosophy, maintains a safe and healthy environment for children where independence is encouraged, individuality is respected and self-concepts enhanced and teams with families, other agencies and professionals in the community to encourage collaboration and partnership.

Duties

  • Develops, plans, implements and monitors curriculum, meeting physical, cognitive,
personal and social, and creative needs of children.Prepares, implements and evaluates weekly lesson plans with the teaching team utilizing weekly planning meetings.
  • Interacts with children as individuals using praise and positive reinforcement and provides opportunities for children to experience success.
  • Maintains orderly, safe, healthy and inviting environment in accordance with accreditation, licensing and center's health and safety standards.
  • Utilizes positive discipline techniques guided by Julia Days' staff/parent handbooks.Is a positive role model.
  • Assures children are visually supervised at all times.
  • Assists Director with supervision, training and evaluation of assistant teachers and volunteers.
  • Observes and documents significant individual and/or group behavior.
  • Communicates often with Director, staff, parents and families to maintain relationships and resolve concerns early.
  • Tracks, monitors and maintains records and files (mandated by Julia Day and State) including personal and classroom attendance, meal counts, time sheets, etc.
  • Supplies parent/guardians with written or verbal notes about their child's day including highlights, changes of patterns and injuries.
  • Maintains classroom in a neat, clean and orderly manner.
  • Fills out ouch reports/accident reports in a timely manner.
  • Attends staff meetings and school functions as required.
  • Maintains ongoing knowledge of program activities and assists in preparation when requested to do so by the Director.
  • Shows enthusiasm in contributing extra materials and ideas to the classroom programs.
  • Endeavors to work as a part of the team in the classroom and maintain a positive, flexible attitude.
  • Greet parents/guardians with enthusiasm and warmth and show that you are happy to be a part of Julia Day Nursery and each child's life.
  • Welcomes parents into the classroom with opportunities to become involved.
  • Keep the director informed of children with persistent behavior and/or health problems.
  • Collaborates with other professionals across disciplines as a team to benefit the center'schildren and families.
  • Assists in planning specific activities and events to encourage parent/guardian involvement and participation.
  • Participates and is involved in community activities to strengthen community partnership.
  • Completes required hours of continuing education according to specifications established by the State of Connecticut, Day Care Licensing Unit, School Readiness, and NAEYC Accreditation.
  • Arrives on time for assigned duties
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by Director

Education/Training:

- Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education
- MA or MS in a related field, 12 credits in Early Childhood Education and 2 years' experience
in Early Childhood
- Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education
- BS or BA in a related field, 12 credits in Early Childhood Education and 2 years' experience in
Early Childhood
- Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development and pursuing a
Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education
- Associates Degree in related field with 2 years' experience in Early Childhood and pursuing a
Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education

Plus:Head Teacher's certificate from Department of Public Health, Day Care Licensing Unit or proof of eligibility

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift children weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be capable of bending, crouching, or kneeling to children's level.
  • Must be able to reach at and above shoulder height to access higher areas of play equipment, etc.
  • Must be capable of frequent changes of position throughout the work shift.
