Pavement Research Engineer

ATI is currently recruiting a talented Pavement Research Engineer to conduct research on pavement projects for the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) at the Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center (TFHRC). Duties and responsibilities include:

• Perform literature reviews, prepare work plans, design, and execute tests
• Plan, conduct and report on pavement experiments
• Organize, sort, store and analyze data collected from pavement test
• Analyze data to determine research results and document conclusions
• Execute test operating procedures, and Pavement Test Machine (PTM) test procedures
• Prepare publication ready research reports and journal paper manuscripts
• Participate and present at demonstrations, seminars, committee meetings, workshops
• Provide technology transfer, implementation, and support
• Evaluation testing of pavement structures and materials
• Perform modeling of pavement structures
• Predict in-service pavement performance
• Perform NDE of pavement structures

Required Education and/or Work Experience:

• Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in Civil Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering
• At least 3 years of related experience
• Ability to demonstrate a strong technical knowledge of the principles of pavement mechanics, pavement design and pavement performance prediction, and be able to effectively work with a team of other engineers and technicians.
• Laboratory experience related to pavement engineering, material engineering, or equivalent thereof
• Familiarity with pavement performance analysis software
• Understanding of and familiarity with standards and specifications related to pavement engineering of transportation infrastructure.
• Excellent verbal, presentation, and writing skills.
• Excellent team and collaborative skills.

Preferred experience/ qualifications:

• Pavement in-situ testing experience (FWD, LWD, DCP, Nuclear Density Gauge, etc)
• Instrumentation experience (sensors, data acquisition system)
• Microsoft Access

Job Type: Full-time

Location: McLean, Virginia

Working Hours: Normal Work Hours – Monday – Friday (anticipate 40 per week).
