Under the direction of the Aquatics Safety Supervisor, help ensure the safety and supervision of the patrons in and around the Aquatic areas of the Fitness Center.

Requirements:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES:


  1. Responsible for performing Lifeguard duties in an effective manner
  2. Supervise the conduct of patrons to prevent unsafe conditions and behavior
  3. Strictly and tactfully enforce rules, regulations, policies, and ordinances governing the conduct of patrons using the Facility
  4. Respond to accidents or situations in or out of the water and provide first aid, CPR, and other assistance as necessary
  5. Participate in the record keeping of accidents, rescues, water temperature, and water chemical testing
  6. Help keep the Fitness Center clean and uncluttered
  7. Help maintain pool areas by putting in/taking out lane lines, cleaning decks, covering and uncovering the pools, and removing all unnecessary equipment from the pool areas
  8. Report unsafe conditions to the appropriate personnel in a timely manner


  1. Assume responsibility for maintaining positive relations with patrons
  2. Always conduct oneself in a professional manner and be dressed in proper uniform
  3. Assist and support patrons in a positive and productive manner
  4. Respond to questions and/or concerns of patrons in a prompt fashion
  5. Handle rule violators tactfully


  1. Responsible for establishing and maintaining effective working relations with personnel and management
  2. Attend all staff meetings and in-service training sessions
  3. Assist other lifeguards and area personnel as necessary
  4. Stay aware of other lifeguard chairs and areas of responsibility
  5. Provide input for Aquatic area planning
  6. Discuss areas of concern with appropriate personnel

QUALIFICATIONS:


Minimum Qualifications:


  1. At least 15 years of age
  2. Certification in the following: Standard First Aid, CPR / AED For The Professional Rescuer, Lifeguard Training and First Aid Training through a certifying agency approved by the District
  3. Ability to pass a Center prepared water test
  4. Ability to communicate effectively with patrons, supervisors, and other employees
  5. Ability to hear average or normal conversations
  6. Ability to have average, ordinary vision acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or products, or operate machinery. Depth perception and/or field of vision.
  7. Alert, attentive, and responsible
  8. Ability to be a team player



WORKING CONDITIONS:


  1. Willing and available to work early mornings, mid-day, evenings, weekends, and holidays
  2. Moderate physical activity including pushing, pulling, and/or lifting medium weights
  3. Uncomfortable working positions such as stooping, crouching, and bending
  4. May have a few disagreeable elements such as noise, poor ventilation, or extreme or uneven temperatures
  5. Must work inside and outside
  6. Intermittent exposure to stress
