Description
Assess patients' vascular access needs and determine appropriate IV therapy based on patient condition, treatment plan, and physician orders.
Insert and manage peripheral intravenous (IV) catheters, central venous catheters (CVCs), peripherally inserted central catheters (PICCs), and other vascular access devices (VADs) as needed.
Monitor and maintain IV lines, ensuring patency, proper infusion rates, and site integrity.
Administer intravenous medications, fluids, blood products, and other IV therapies according to physician orders and nursing protocols.
Perform venipuncture and obtain blood specimens for laboratory testing as required.
Assess patients for signs and symptoms of complications related to IV therapy, such as infiltration, phlebitis, and infection, and intervene promptly as needed.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare team members to develop and implement individualized care plans for patients receiving IV therapy.
Educate patients and their families on IV therapy procedures, medications, potential side effects, and self-care techniques.
Document all assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately and timely in electronic health records (EHR) or medical charts.
Adhere to all relevant policies, procedures, and regulatory standards governing IV therapy, including infection control practices and medication administration guidelines.
Maintain competency in IV therapy techniques and stay updated on best practices, advancements, and evidence-based guidelines in infusion nursing.
Provide compassionate and patient-centered care, ensuring comfort, safety, and dignity for patients undergoing IV therapy.
Collaborate with healthcare facilities and travel nursing agencies to fulfill assignment requirements and provide high-quality care in various clinical settings.
Adapt quickly to new environments, patient populations, and healthcare teams while maintaining professionalism and clinical competence.
Communicate effectively with patients, families, colleagues, and other healthcare providers to promote optimal patient outcomes and continuity of care.
