This Multi-site Hospital Director will be responsible for leading 3 sites: Springfield, VA, Rockville, MD, and Leesburg, VA. The home base will be located at the Leesburg site with travel to the other sites as required.


The Hospital Director has overall accountability for the operational and financial management of the hospitals. The Hospital Director performs a wide range of difficult to complex administrative activities related to the hospital in providing quality patient care and excellent client service, management of finances and accounting, marketing, staffing and human resources and leadership development.

The Multi-Site HD will report to the EVH Divisional Director of Operations.


Essential job functions:
  • Responsible for overseeing the operations and financial health of the hospitals.
  • Interfaces and collaborates with EVH Shared Services departments as needed to ensure    that the hospital goals are met.
  • Responsible for overseeing the recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of staff.
  • Responsible for overseeing the recruitment, interviewing, contract negotiation, and hiring of DVMs in conjunction with the Medical Director.
  • Responsible for working closely with the Medical Director and site Hospital Managers to establish the best medical care while keeping the positive financial health of the hospital.
  • Monitor Hospital Manager competence and effectiveness through feedback and observation as well as performance and salary reviews.
  • Assign job responsibilities to hospital managers and delegate as necessary.
  • Responsible for policy enforcement as well as overseeing disciplinary actions and terminations with HR guidance.
  • Passionate about providing resources, support, and supervision for the hospital staff.
  • Oversee and participate in staff meetings.
  • Meet regularly with the Hospital Managers to discuss, evaluate, and plan for the welfare of the practice.
  • Attend corporate meetings.
  • Responsible for administration and review of non-medical client complaints in conjunction with the Hospital Manager.
  • Directs Hospital Managers to facilitate resolution of issues within the hospital.
  • Monitor purchasing so the practice operates within budget.
  • Monitor the staff scheduling so that the practice operates within budget.
  • Monitor and approve all expenditures within EVH guidelines.
  • Ensure that the OSHA and Safety program and procedures are being monitored and updated so that the hospital is in safety compliance.
  • Review income statements and other financial data with Hospital Managers to find ways to improve revenue and profit.
  • Meet regularly with veterinarians to review financial performance.
  • Review accounts receivable with Hospital Managers to confirm proper and timely processing.
  • Understand, participate, and support planned marketing events and programs and ensure that the Hospital Managers utilize marketing tools and materials and events and programs.
  • Read and respond to all communication in a timely manner to ensure that EVH policies, guidelines, and recommendations are quickly communicated to hospital staff and adequate training follows if needed.
  • Develops in-depth understanding of local market and relationships with referring general practice veterinarians to understand their needs.

Essential skills:
  • Knowledge of financial budget management.
  • Knowledge of sales and marketing techniques.
  • Background in managing service-oriented operations.
  • Ability to plan, organize and effectively present ideas and concepts.
  • Ability to take information obtained from clients, staff, and other sources, discern which is credible and assess the hospital and its operation objectively.
  • Must be able to multi-task and deal with high levels of stress in an environment of changing priorities.

Education:
  • College degree preferred.  
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a medical care facility operations management with profit and loss responsibility.
