About this job

Reporting to a Foreman/Project Supervisor, the CDL Driver / Heavy Equipment Operator performs a wide range of tasks required for industrial and environmental service operations. In addition to ensuring the safe transport of equipment and assets to job sites, he/she/they may perform tank cleaning, pipeline maintenance, manual remediation services, waste bulking, and/or demolition services.

Essential Functions:

  • Drive trucks, tankers and other vehicles requiring a CDL to/from job sites
  • Load and unload equipment from vehicles, trailers and watercraft
  • Safely operate a variety of heavy equipment utilized in field operations, such as backhoes, excavators, etc.
  • Operate routinely used tools and equipment, including but not limited to: steam cleaners, water lasers, cascade systems, chemical mixers, generators, air saws, drills, grinders, cutting torches, etc.
  • Perform physical labor associated with cleanup activities, sample collection, waste removal and other remediation services
  • Ensure assigned equipment is maintained in optimal condition by performing routine inspections and preventive maintenance; refer defects and/or needed repairs to supervisor
  • Assist with routine facility maintenance & inventory management tasks as required
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of all required driver logs, documentation, forms, etc. as required
  • Follow all applicable safety rules, regulations, guidelines, policies, and site specific safety plans
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required

Skills/Qualifications:

  • CDL Class A or Class B license required
  • Ability to successfully complete pre-hire skills test and assessments, including practical field driving test
  • Demonstrates a focus on safety; is able to identify hazards and take appropriate actions to avoid injury or incident
  • Ability to interpret and follow written and oral instructions and assignments
  • Demonstrates team spirit, shows flexibility and positive attitude as an active team contributor
  • Must be legally authorized for employment in the United States
  • Ability to successfully pass pre-employment background check, including FMCSA Clearinghouse query

Physical Demands:
Must be able to satisfactorily pass a pre-employment and annual physical examination + drug screening as required under HEPACO’s Medical Surveillance Program. Regularly requires intermittent sitting, standing, walking, running, climbing, squatting, and kneeling. Physical strength and dexterity sufficient to perform the required task. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds or more with assistance.

Work Environment:
In addition to normal business hours, work schedules may routinely include after hours and weekend assignments. Frequent work outside and in inclement weather conditions is required, including heat, cold, and humidity. May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration. Must be willing and able to wear Personal Protective Equipment as required by established Company Safety standards, including the occasional use of a respirator. Must be willing and able to enter into and work in confined and dark spaces, as well as in small boats, and at heights in excess of 18 feet for prolonged periods of time. Frequent travel may be required.
