Job Summary:

The Assistant Quality Control Manager is responsible for overseeing the day–to-day operations and management of the QC technicians and operations under supervision of the Quality Control Manager. This individual will help plan, direct, and coordinate work activities and resources necessary for safely managing a QC Department region. The Assistant Manager will be responsible for coordinating schedules and information sharing with the required state or acceptance agency when applicable.

Essential Functions:

  1. Dedication. In accordance with project specifications, actively coordinate, oversee and (at times) conduct all required lab testing across regional facilities and projects. Ensure all required laboratory testing across regional facilities and projects is carried out.
  2. Measurement. Perform various aggregate and asphalt-related tests to include coarse and fine aggregate gradations, RAP gradations, wash loss, unit weights, crush count, etc. as required by project specifications.
  3. Perform basic asphalt pavement tests such as Air Void Analysis (Va), Bulk Density (GMB), Rice Test (GMM), Hot Bin Analysis, Moisture Content, Drum Gradation, AC Ignition Oven Test, etc.
  4. Focused. Review specifications and prepare HMA mix designs in accordance with project and agency specifications.
  5. Mastery. Review and/or prepare laboratory reports; ensuring they are accurately maintained and completed in a timely manner.
  6. Ownership and caring. Maintain a program for calibration of lab equipment. Train junior QC staff to calibrate and maintain calibration of laboratory equipment. Identify laboratory equipment needs and arrange for maintenance of QC equipment to keep it in proper working condition.
  7. Results matter. Maintain records, prepare reports and accurate record keeping for all tests completed by all QC staff members, including calibration efforts.
  8. Respect and engage. Communicate with DOT personnel and inspectors, plant operators and superintendents, and sales representatives to coordinate schedules and project testing and reporting.
  9. Communicate. Work with junior QC staff in a cooperative manner to ensure all basic job requirements are being met. Help identify areas of growth or training for junior QC staff when required.
  10. Committed to serve. Manage QC facilities and program to ensure that facilities are staffed with qualified, well-trained employees.


Requirements, Education and Experience:

  1. Ability to work safely and adhere to Peckham Safety Standards.
  2. 5+ years of relevant QC and/or construction experience preferred.
  3. High School Diploma or GED required.
  4. NETTCP QAT preferred or willing to achieve within 1 year.
  5. Excellent customer skills, interpersonal and decision-making skills required.
  6. Organizational and documentation skills and the ability to handle multiple assignments are required.
  7. Have and maintain reliable transportation.
  8. Must be computer literate and comfortable using Word, Excel, and email.
  9. Quality Control experience in the Asphalt and Concrete Industries is a plus.
  10. Work irregular hours based upon customer's needs including day, evenings, overnights, and occasional weekends.

Travel:

Position may require up to 25% travel by personal vehicle to offices throughout the state of New York, and New England based on the needs of the business.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers. This is mostly sedentary, outside of travel, in an office space. The abilities to sit at a desk, frequent walking, bending, or standing, as necessary, are required.
