About the role

Future Horizon R&D’s remit is to pursue and build strategic advantages in prioritised areas of science and technology application to deliver growth in strategic key verticals that enable our brands/BUs to take up future leadership positions through Deep Human understanding and unique & differentiated Trusted Science. The FH group translates new approaches learnt in the process of building strategic science & technology into new capabilities for R&D.

This role helps define the long-term, global Wellness strategy by identifying opportunity areas, partnering and derisking early-stage relevant science & technology s part of a Global new technologies team, this role will serve as the primary link between Regional R&D (NA or APAC) and the global team to ensure key science platforms.

The Principle / Senior Scientist role focuses on :

1. Support the FH Wellness & Naturals Sc & Technology Lead in developing compelling science for Haleon’s global emerging science & technology H3 roadmap, focusing on advanced cellular ageing, healthy longevity, science of microbiome, gut & mental health, mobility, women’s health and systemic inflammation that can be translated for Global application

2. Work with the Centrum global commercial team and BU R&D / commercial teams to define enterprise VMS strategy, build and identify the key science & technology building blocks across new solutions and trusted science roadmap to scale science & technology in key focus areas stated in (1)

3. Partner with all Regions, BUs including US & China teams to ensure inputs on market trends, consumer needs and BU wellness long term ambitions are incorporated into the FH strategies.

4. Identify key strategic external partners in US and Singapore in phase 1 of FH organization, build relationship and manage projects together to advance Trusted Science through differentiated and superior science for the key benefit areas.

5. Drive research of new Ingredients of global benefit in terms of delivery technologies, evidence generation, study of mode of actions.

6. Drive innovative claim concept generation & visualization - Identifying agile, low-cost alternatives to conventional clinical studies to support product claims

The role is part of the FH Wellness & Naturals S&T team and plays a key role in shaping the science, technology and capability strategy (governed at RDLT) primarily for the wellness category (Centrum, Caltrate, Emergen-C, ENO).

Role Responsibilities

  • STRATEGIC FOCUS AREAS (MOBILITY / HEALTHY AGEING / WOMEN’S HEALTH / MICROBIOME / PERSONALISED WELLNESS)

    • Own and build the long term science & technology roadmap for desired space: set the strategy for Haleon for the target area by: building the Technology Product Roadmap (technology into consumer), deliverring the prioritised building blocks within the roadmap, leading the IP and Investigation strategy for defined  domain and ensuring potential for global application of solutions

    • Build the enabling global ecosystem in the target space & manage the external ecosystem for the defined  domain, lead external partnership and technology acquisition/access strategy, supplier base innovation long term (H3) partnerships

    • Liaison with Regional R&D leadership to ensure Global input and requirements are built into associated strategies.

  • SCIENTIFIC VISUALIZATION / MODE OF ACTION:

    • Owns the strategy on visual communication of the technical reason to believe, underlying science and potential solutions in the targeted design space

    • Developing a globally relevant scientific story that compels consumers, customers and HCPs

  • Building regional external networks supporting new capabilities including, but not limited to:   Healthy Gut, Ageing, Microbiome science, Personalized wellness.

  • Providing thought leadership: Externally recognized as leading voice / player in new Healthy Gut, Ageing & Microbiome scientific validation with a clear influence strategy (regulatory & medical advocacy strategy, HCP networks etc)

  • Facilitate knowledge exchange and collaboration within Healthy Gut, Ageing & Microbiome platfrom as well as more broadly across FH and regions / BU wellness.

  • Actively facilitate networking and partnership activities with Categories and BUs

  • Build a network of functional experts within the broader CH R&D organisation (eg. FH, Innovation Research, Category/BU R&D Leads etc) to support Healthy Gut, Ageing & Microbiome science & technology opportunities.

Why you?

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Bachelor of Science, in Pharmacy, Pharmacology, Nutrition, Biochemistry or Biomedical science.

  • 10+ years and 5+ years in FMCG or Consumer Healthcare Global experience in science & technology partnerships building.

  • Ability to drive scientific excellence, understand key technologies, build models, and communicate effectively within R&D.

  • Expertise in developing novel solutions through combining internal and external technology.

  • Excellent analytical skills, including strategic thinking.

  • Leadership, communication and influencing skills, ability to lead change.

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Master of Science, Pharmacy, Pharmacology, Nutrition, Biochemistry or Biomedical science

  • This role is expected to build thought leadership in horizon 3 Healthy Gut, Ageing & Microbiome science & technology opportunities at the company level and influence the innovation pipeline of Future Horizons.

  • Substantial product development or scientific research experience in healthcare or consumer goods

  • Technical leadership of multifunctional R+D teams demonstrating sound understanding of responsibilities of medical, regulatory, engineering and science functions.

  • Understanding of healthcare development principles and requirements ideally for dietary supplements, and medicines

  • Expert in the application of systems thinking and requirements management to complex science & technology de-risking.

  • Worked within a marketing led environment where complex technical issues must be communicated effectively and debated with stakeholders with diverse experience.

  • Multiskilled team player comfortable working at a senior level but also rolling sleeves up and doing the work themselves as required.

  • A first-class problem solver who relishes a challenge and will find the pragmatic path to get things done.

  • Good networking ability within a large organization and with external partners

  • Strong experience in innovative new to business developments

Location – this role may be based in Richmond, VA (USA) or Singapore
This position is a grade: 6
