Summary:
The Director of Academics provides leadership to coordinate and supervise the effective delivery of Special Education services and serves as the chief administrator of the school in developing and implementing policies, programs, curriculum activities, and budgets in a manner that promotes the educational development of each student and the professional development of each faculty member.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
• Provide professional leadership in organizing, administering, supervising, and evaluating the effective delivery of Special Education services
• Conceptualize the broad goals of the school and plan accordingly to ensure that procedures and schedules are implemented to carry out the total school program.
• Ensure that the school program is compatible with the legal, financial and organizational structure of the school system.
• Define the responsibilities and accountability of faculty members and develop plans for interpreting the school program to the community
• Take an active role in decision-making and assisting facilitation of positive outcomes for students with special needs.
• Oversee all facets of the special education department including programs, services, personnel and budget.
• Ensures that all Special Services programs and activities conform to federal, state and district guidelines.
• Provide direct supervision and oversee the essential functions and general responsibilities of the Academic Case Managers
• Provide activities which facilitate the professional growth of the academic faculty and enhance the quality of the instructional program while appraising performance
• Ensure that instructional objectives for a given subject and/or classroom are developed and involve the faculty and others in the development of specific curricular objectives to meet the needs of the students and the school program.
• Orient and assist new faculty and provide opportunities for their input in the school program.
• Evaluate student progress in the instructional program by means that include the maintaining of up-to-date student data.
• Maintain student confidentiality and report all pertinent information to the executive director
• Appropriately represent Mount Prospect Academy, Inc. academic programs to the community, students' parents and outside agencies.
• Follow all company policies and procedures.
• Other duties as assigned.

Ability to work collaboratively to implement and monitor special education programs; ability to work in a supportive, collaborative role with faculty in all departments; ability to interpret and remain current on all federal, state, and local mandates for special education and Section 504 services and to ensure that the school is in compliance; handle confidential information discretely and professionally; use discretion and exercise sound judgment; exceptional public relations/interpersonal/problem solving skills to respond to parents and advocacy groups and to serve as the school's lead representative/contact person of programs for special needs students; effective management, supervisory, team-building, and problem solving skills.
Education and/or Experience:
• Master's Degree required: M.Ed., CAGS/CAS, EdD, or PhD preferred
• Valid New Hampshire Postgraduate Professional license required with endorsements in administration, supervision, and special education.
• Experience as a teacher and administrator working with students with disabilities (ages 2 to 21years inclusive) to include a minimum of 5 years direct development of IEPs and implementation through service delivery
• 5 years administrative/supervisory experience involving exceptional learner processes and instructional programming.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, school faculty, clinical, residential and administrative departments.
• Possess knowledge of State Core Curriculum requirements and Department of Education adopted guidelines.
• Position requires criminal history background check.
* "The ability to attain NH Principal license or Special Ed Administrator" Special Education Administrator is preferred.
