Manager, Production Engineering (Space Systems)

Position Profile :

The Manager, Production Engineering role manages projects at multiple phases of the production life cycle, from low-rate initial production through sustaining legacy product lines in a cost effective and timely fashion to meet the customer's needs and schedules. The Manager, Production Engineering executes this responsibility through the planning, organizing, directing and controlling of direct staff as well as assigned cross functional staff, as needed. This role is responsible for assigned engineering activities in the production phase including definition, plans, analysis, test definition and review, results, manufacturing coordination, schedules, budgets and reporting.

Minimum Required Qualifications :
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
  • >5 years' relevant work experience in a high technology environment (Aerospace, Military, Automotive, etc.)
  • Demonstrated relevant leadership experience
  • Familiarity with government contractual procurement procedures, standards and quality requirements
  • Exemplary verbal/written communication skills required for multi-faceted interactions with all levels of personnel within the organization, as well as any and all outside agents, including but not limited to, vendors, suppliers, customers, potential job candidates, etc.
  • Highly computer literate, with MS Office/PC expertise, and demonstrated experience with applicable systems, programs, equipment, etc.
  • Must be a US Citizen


Essential or Primary / Key Responsibilities :
  • Drive the advancement of the company's production engineering capabilities and product streamlining initiatives. Support the team to execute on manufacturing readiness initiatives for new and legacy programs
  • Kick off and review fixture designs for new products. Perform and review stress calculations, tolerance stackups, and ergonomics for fixture designs
  • Generate procedures, processes, and fixtures for product lines to scale with the growth targets of the organization
  • Utilize existing tools to achieve improved process capabilities, including, but not limited to, dynamic analysis (MATLAB), requirements traceability (DOORS), FEA structural and thermal analysis (Pro/Mechanica), CAD/CAM (Pro/E), and internally developed analysis techniques (Valve Design)
  • Support proposals, program costing, operational efficiencies, and effectiveness (cost reduction) programs. Manage project tracking and reporting
  • Generate and review work orders/routing steps for new and existing products. Cross-communicate with other operations functions to set an accurate capacity and production flow
  • Generate and review complex assembly procedures for new and existing valve models, including the design of novel fixturing for new products
  • Handle constantly changing requirements in an organized fashion to meet challenging design requirements, delivery dates, and cost goals
  • Actively participate in the development of Marotta business and engineering strategy to achieve company financial and business goals
  • Develop, manage, and maintain engineering knowledge, expertise, and internal and external resources to support past, current and developing products and services
  • Monitor the progress of Projects, take action to keep on track (time, money, quality) and make adjustments when needed
  • Provide information to internal and external customers on project progress and latest expectations
  • Recruit, hire, orient, manage, develop, motivate, recognize, reward and where necessary discipline and terminate personnel
  • Develop external relationships with customers, consultants and vendors to extend the engineering competencies and resources to address Marotta business needs
  • Address potential issues proactively and apply real-time problem solving skills to achieve prompt resolution. Continually address improvement opportunities
  • Prepare and manage project and department budgets
  • Allocate resources, materials and the scheduling of equipment for maximum utilization of production facilities and personnel
  • Manage training requirements of applicable internal team members (and external, when applicable).

Additional Duties / Responsibilities :
  • Bring initiatives and activities to closure in a timely manner through effective interaction with individuals, both internal and external to the Marotta organization (as required)
  • Manage and facilitate training, as needed, to maintain a cross-trained workforce and to support operational goals and objectives
  • Ensure self, and personnel company-wide, are abiding by all safety, quality, housekeeping and company policies/procedures to ensure compliance to all regulatory and internal system requirements
  • Promote and foster a positive and cooperative work environment through effective communication at all levels internal and external to the organization
  • Organize and lead team meetings, improvement initiatives/programs, etc. to provide constructive recommendations and initiate actions to support company initiatives/goals.
  • Consistently demonstrate commitment to company values
  • Keep Executive management informed of area activities and of any significant problems.
  • Assume responsibility for related duties as required or assigned
  • Ensure that work area and work areas of direct reports are clean, secure, and well maintained
  • Complete special projects and miscellaneous assignments as required


This position is at our Montville, NJ office location.
