About this job

Amentum is looking for a Pipefitter to join our team in McLean, VA. As a Pipefitter, you will Layout, fabricate, assemble, install, and maintain piping and piping systems, water softener, fixtures, and equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, domestic water, sewer, industrial processing systems - on basis of knowledge of system operating and study of building plans or working drawings.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI w/Poly level US Government clearance. Note: US Citizenship is required to obtain a TS/SCI w/Poly clearance.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Select type and size of pipe and related materials according to job specifications.
  • Inspect work sites to determine presence of obstructions.
  • Plan sequence of installation to avoid obstructions and activities of other maintenance workers.
  • Cut and thread pipe using threading machine.
  • Bend pipe by hand or with pipe-bending machine.
  • Assemble and install variety of metal and non-metal pipe and pipe fitting; including those made of brass, copper, lead, glass, and plastic.
  • Join piping by means of threaded, caulked, wiped, soldered, brazed, fused, or cemented joints.
  • Use hand tools to secure pipe to structure with clamps, brackets, and hangers.
  • Test system for leaks by proper methods in pipes and observing gauges attached to pipes for indication of leaks.
  • Perform other job-related duties, as assigned.
  • Direct repair personnel, as assigned.
  • Must possess the ability to read and understand blueprints and sketches.
  • Knowledge and experience of tools, equipment, and machinery related to the pipefitting trade.
  • Work from preventive maintenance schedules and assist with development of such schedules.
  • Assist outside contractors, as required, with knowledge of facilities, operations, and utilities.
  • Observe all safety, practices, directives, and use proper PPE as required.
  • Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair dry pipe, pre-action, and Deluge systems.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • High school, technical school, apprenticeship, trade school graduate or equivalent required.
  • Eight years' experience in the plumbing/pipefitting trade required with a thorough working knowledge of piping systems.
  • Journeyman steamfitter or plumbers license required.
  • Must obtain within one year and maintain back flow prevention testing and Maintenance certification.
  • Have a thorough knowledge of rest room plumbing systems, sprinkler systems domestic water, steam, and condensate systems.
  • Have a thorough working knowledge of plumbing codes, sprinkler codes and practices.
  • Must be able to physically lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to climb, crawl, bend, and/or sit in cramped or uncomfortable places and positions.
  • Ability to comprehend written and oral instructions.
  • A willingness to work rotational shift if necessary, including days, evenings, and nights as well as overtime, weekends, and holidays, as required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI w/Poly level US Government clearance. Note: US Citizenship is required to obtain a TS/SCI w/Poly clearance.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master Plumbing License or Master Steam fitter license.
  • Ability to write correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to
  • customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Must have valid Driver's license.
  • Active US security clearance of Secret or above


PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Incumbents may work in conditions that require operating industrial machinery/power tools and motor vehicles. Additionally, incumbents may participate in work that requires walking, bending, squatting, and carrying materials throughout the facility. Workplace conditions necessitate following strict safety guidelines and the use of Personal Protective Equipment. Work tasks requiring the incumbent to lift weight more than 50 pounds requires two or more persons.
