Marathon Targets utilizes our autonomous robotic targets to bridge the gap in training between the first time a shooter fires live ammunition at a moving target, and a real firefight. Robots are used to create the most realistic live fire scenario training possible to aid in developing the skills of law enforcement officers and war fighters.

This role involves operating our robotic targets to support the training of a federal law enforcement agency. This includes agents, uniformed officers, the tactical team, sniper team and more. This position does entail some hours such as late nights and early mornings, and there is occasional interstate travel as well to support when the agency trains out of state. Primary tasks include:

  • Discussing and planning training with instructors
  • Translating the trainer's intent into live fire scenarios which the robots can execute
  • Educating military/law enforcement personnel on the robots capabilities and limitations
  • Transportation of the robot system to the training location
  • Range set-up: setting up communications equipment, surveying the range, having robots drive to their positions on the range
  • Overseeing the robots during training and monitoring their state through the robot-control software
  • Adapting the robot's behavior on the spot according to progress of trainees and real-time directions from instructors
  • Robot maintenance and charging
  • Reporting on training activities and robot usage
  • Coordinating with Marathon staff t facilitate improvements based on actual usage

Skills/Attributes:

This role does not require any specific technical expertise. However, understanding firearms training from a law enforcement or military perspective will help in translating the instructors intent into live fire scenarios for the robots. A technical mindset and the ability to troubleshoot is essential. We will provide training in the particulars of operation/maintenance of the system.

  • Prior service in law enforcement or the U.S. DoD/military is highly preferred
  • Experience in CQB or CQB training is preferred
  • Confidence operating computers
  • A high mechanical aptitude and some basic experience with electrical debugging
  • Ability to work in the field and willingness to get hands dirty
  • Must be able to move around on large training ranges for long durations
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • High Motivation - a go getter
  • Ability to work effectively without supervision
  • Ability to deal with uncertainty and changing plans
  • A willingness to occasionally work long hours and at night as needed
  • Hold a valid driver's license
  • Ability to be cleared to work on a government and /or law enforcement facilities
  • Ability to travel interstate
  • Ability to move or carry equipment weighing up to 70 lbs. for set up

Training:

The chosen candidate will undergo hands-on training alongside an experienced Marathon Field Service Representative. Once the new FSR is deemed competent, they will begin to run operations independently.
