OVERVIEW

The Security Officer/Guard is charged with setting a safe and secure environment by monitoring the entry and exiting of visitors, clients and employees. This bi-lingual Security Officer provides further assistance through communicating with visitors in Spanish and/or translating when necessary or requested. This position reports to the Lead Security Officer.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Adhere to all Safety Procedures including reporting any unsafe practices, equipment and environment, and take an active role in correcting the unsafe practice, equipment or environment through proper notification and accordance to policy and training;
  • Provide active and alert supervision of youth, staff, visitors and monitoring of facility movements inside and around facility perimeter;
  • Control front door and internal/external access and review the Security Log for any visitors or events scheduled for arrival for the day;
  • Document notification and calls throughout the day in the Security Log and submit the log at the end of each shift at the time of relief by another Security Officer or staff member;
  • Request valid identification from all unknown person, take down their License plate number and direct them to the reception area;
  • Ensure safe transport of youth and other residents of the facility in a vehicle (USCRI-owned vehicle or staff’s personal vehicle) by confirming that they have signed out and documented it in the Security log;
  • Report any incident involving the security officer and/or staff, family members, resident or visitors immediately to the Director.
  • Monitor cameras and make necessary notifications and alerts to other departments in a timely and effective manner;
  • Report repair and maintenance needs to maintain the physical condition of the facility;
  • Conduct authorized searches in accordance with proper protocols;
  • Abide by and effectively execute secure detention protocols and procedures;
  • Participate in appropriate professional development activities to attain and maintain competency;
  • Use different approaches to form relationships to meet youths’ individual and group needs and utilize positive interventions and support to increase healthy and pro-social behavior; and
  • When interacting with youth, utilize Positive interventions and support to increase healthy and pro-social behavior.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum High School Diploma or GED required;
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in law enforcement or security work is preferred;
  • Licensed State of Florida Security Guard preferred;
  • Written and verbal fluency in English and Spanish is required;
  • Satisfactorily complete a criminal history check, national sex offender registry, FBI check, substance abusing, TB testing and health screening before employment;
  • Support a trauma-informed approach and therapeutic learning environment when interacting with youth;
  • Support all functions that attain and maintain accreditation and compliance with regulatory agencies;
  • Ability to work under pressure and remain calm and composed under stressful situations;
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff, residents, service providers and others;
  • Ability to evaluate/interpret information and make good and independent judgements or decisions; and
  • Demonstrated support of USCRI’s values by exhibiting respect for others, maintenance of confidential information and an appreciation of a multicultural workplace.

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

  • Satisfactory completion of USCRI’s Orientation and Training;
  • Satisfactory completion of the 24 hours and 16 hours State of Florida Security Guard Training Program and maintain training requirements and license annually;
  • Satisfactory completion of annual mandatory training –; and
  • Complete additional training as identified by supervisor(s), program director or Human Resources.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Use of manual dexterity, tactile, visual, and audio acuity;
  • Use of repetitive motion, prolonged periods of sitting and standing, and sustained visual and mental applications and demands;
  • Occasional lifting (up to 50 pounds), bending, pulling, and carrying;
  • Ability to read, write and converse in English and Spanish;
  • Quantitative/mathematical ability (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, standard measurements).
