General Job Description:

Job requires the ability to read and interpret a variety of material related documents, both internally and externally generated, including material requisitions, purchases orders, governing body material codes and specifications, material certifications and test reports, approved manufacturer lists, packing and shipping papers, and dimensional standards. Job may also require the ability to operate handling equipment, use measuring instruments, enter/retrieve/analyze data in the Materials Management System (JDE), and prepare and manage LTL and parcel type shipments.

Functional Requirements:

  1. Must possess good written and oral communication skills.
  2. Adept at usage of computer-based systems including business management systems (JDE), spreadsheet and word processing, electronic mail, and document imaging systems.
  3. Sound knowledge of material receiving practices.
  4. Basic knowledge of material specifications and standards commonly utilized in the pipe fabrication industry.

Qualification Standards:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Minimum of two (2) years of experience in Materials, Engineering, or Operations supplemented with OJT will be required.
  3. Pre-employment/post-employment qualification test, if applicable.
  4. Post-offer drug/alcohol screen and physical evaluation.
  5. Turner Industries Group/Job site orientation/Hazard Communication and required tests.
  6. Job site "Personal Protective Equipment" requirements (hearing protection, safety glasses - OSHA approved Z87 if applicable, long sleeve shirt, gloves, steel toe boots, etc.).
  7. Applicant/employee must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of such individual or others in the workplace.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reviews incoming shipment documentation, verifies to specifications, and prepares documents for material check-in.
  • Verifies physical dimensions of material.
  • Generates and distributes non-conformance documentation.
  • Interfaces with vendors, purchasing groups, and project management for resolution of non-conformance issues.
  • Reviews purchase orders for compliance to engineering generated requisitions.
  • Assesses damaged or other material non-conformances and determines path for resolution.
  • Maintains reporting requirements specified by customers when they furnish material.
  • Records information in material control systems.
  • Utilizes various computer-based systems to determine material status, communicate and resolve material issues, and verify compliance to standards.
  • Prepares documentation and packages non-truckload shipments.
  • Read and sign off on JSA prior to starting of shift.
  • Stores, removes, loads, and unloads all types of pipes from storage bins, pallets and vehicles that cannot be handled by material handling devices.
  • Operates manual or mechanical devices and stocks inventory shelves.
  • Reads customer order, work order, material pull sheets, or requisition to determine items to be moved, gathered, or distributed.
  • Assorts and places materials or items on racks, shelves, or bins according to predetermined sequences such as size, type, style, or color.
  • Moves pipe and supplies from the materials warehouse and prepares for delivery.
  • Fills requisitions, work orders or requests for pipe, tools, or stock items; records material items received or distributed.
  • May maintain inventory records.
  • Performs additional assignments as required.
  • Always maintains a clean and safe work environment.

Physical Involvement:

Employee may be required to do the following: climbing ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc. above and below ground level; maintaining balance on ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc.; reaching in all directions, handling and manipulating objects and materials; coordinating the movements of eyes, hands and fingers to operate tools and equipment; lifting 30 to 50 pounds from ground level, waist level, and/or overhead; carrying objects, tools equipment, etc.; standing; sitting; walking; pushing; pulling; bending; kneeling; crouching/squatting; crawling; seeing with or without correction; hearing with or without correction.

Mental Involvement:

Employees may be required to do the following: following set procedures and standards; applying basic mathematical skills; planning work and selecting proper tools; comparing and understanding differences in the size, shape and form of pipe spools, figures and objects; following oral and/or written directions; reading and writing; ability to recognize and report safety hazards.

Work Environment Factors:

  • Location: pipe fabrication facility.
  • Mobility Barriers to Access Job Site: uneven ground levels; obstructed pathways; work performed at low and/or high elevations; work performed in confined areas.
  • Climatic/Environmental Conditions at Job Site: may be exposed to extreme hot or cold weather, excessive humidity, rain, etc.; various noise levels caused by tools, machinery, equipment, etc.; potential exposure to chemical substances.

Miscellaneous Requirements:

There will be times that the individual may be required to perform a task other than their normal operation required by the company or the foreman, owing to the job demand.
