Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required and previous driving experience preferred.
• Valid Driver's License and must meet the MVR driver's qualifications. Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Able to work cooperatively and effectively with others.
• Respect confidentiality.
• Ability to work irregular hours.
• Ability to operate the Corps van or truck, hand truck, laser thermometer, and electronic scale.
• Ability to accept supervision and work with a team of co-workers.
• Ability to organize work, set priorities, meet deadlines, and complete tasks with a minimum of direction.
• Ability to use Salvation Army web-based timecards.
• Must pass The Salvation Army background checks.
• Willingness to support the philosophy, goals, objectives, and mission of The Salvation Army.
• Safe From Harm will apply upon commencement of employment and Safe From Harm training must be satisfactorily completed within the first thirty (30) days of employment.

Position Summary

The Food Shelf Driver is primarily responsible for the pick-up and deliver of weekly food donations from local area businesses. This is a part time position with week expectation of up to 25 hours per week.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relationships with co-workers and supervisors. • Support the Mission of The Salvation Army by treating every client, donor, and colleague with respect and dignity, and without discrimination of any kind.
• Engage all community members in a way that brings them to the Corps for programming, events, and Pathway of Hope.
• Pick-up up food from area business donors and deliver it to the Corps food shelf, which involves loading and unloading of food donations, including (but not limited to) canned goods, frozen meats, dairy and bakery products.
• Sort produce and discard what is unsuitable for human consumption according to FDA guidelines.
• Load waste for pig farmers pickup and record weights,
• Make sure perishable and frozen food is properly stored as soon as possible.
• Keep work area clean and orderly.
• Weigh and appropriately store food in pantry as directed.
• Report pick-ups, weight of donations and temperatures of frozen meats and dairy products to Food Shelf Coordinator.
• Work closely with food shelf coordinator, warehouse and food shelf assistant and volunteers.
• Work as a team member to support all efforts of The Salvation Army including but not limited to seasonal activities such as Christmas and School Supplies.

Working Conditions

While there are normally no hazardous or significantly unpleasant physical working conditions, human behavior is unpredictable. All staff members must be capable of intervening in an appropriate manner to resolve conflicts and sudden emergency events. This position requires driving. The duties and responsibilities of this position cannot be performed from home.
