Basic Function

Mechanical Maintenance Techs / Millwrights are tasked to apply mechanical expertise to insure the safe and reliable operation of site process plants and reduce operating costs. This is accomplished by executing assigned work according to plan and schedule, noting any job plan deviations, and providing input on improvement opportunities.

Roles & Responsibilities
  • Provides support for new equipment installation and proactive maintenance to process equipment.

  • Provides technical expertise for efficient and effective installation, acceptance testing, commissioning, pro-active maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of unit equipment.

  • Provides Quality Assurance oversight related to construction related machinery installations.

  • Ability to diagnose issues with and repair pumps, compressors, turbines, extruders, and their related piping systems.

  • Monitors field construction activities and provide progress/status updates to machinery lead.

  • Acquiring all necessary parts, tools, and instructions prior to starting the job to maximize work efficiency.

  • Work with site construction contractors and project personnel to complete task in a safe and timely manner.

  • Completing all documentation using a computerized maintenance management system.

  • Respond to tasks as directed by maintenance supervision with the appropriate sense of urgency to minimize impact to process units.

  • Ensure contractors comply with equipment inspection & test plans (ITP's).

  • Identify issues related to quality control of machinery installation by contractor. This may include recommending actions to correct deficiencies.

  • Candidate will be required to work with other Maintenance Technicians, Operations Technicians, and Engineers as job scope dictates.

Min. Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent with the ability to read, write and speak the English language.
  • Minimum of 2 years of maintenance millwright / pump mechanic experience in an industrial environment.
  • Must have working knowledge of rotating equipment design and application for various types of machinery: turbo machinery, process pumps, reciprocating compressors and process fans.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics and detailed machinery drawings.
  • Ability to align equipment utilizing either indicators or laser alignment methods.
  • Knowledge of equipment foundation construction; understanding of proper foundation profiles for various types of equipment,
  • Construction experience for the installation of new equipment (anchor bolt installation, sole plate leveling, leveling of machinery bases pre-grout step).
  • Must be able to perform general maintenance work on rotating and fixed equipment. These tasks may involve but would not limited to:
    • prolonged standing and walking varied distances (0-2 hours at a time up to 6 hours per shift)
    • minimal sitting
    • bending, squatting, kneeling or knee standing
    • climbing vertical and inclined steps up to 100 feet on a rare basis and up to 80 feet on an occasional basis
    • climbing and crawling into pipe racks
    • lifting and climbing extension ladders (weight of 10 foot extension ladder- 45 pounds)
    • lifting of objects up to 50 pounds individually and up to 95 pounds using a two man lift
    • reaching at various heights
    • grasping (exerting up to 80 pounds) for various tasks
    • using variety of hand tools to include pneumatic tools
    • pushing and pulling to assemble and disassemble equipment (approximately 100 pounds to push and 200 pounds to pull)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Fundamental understanding of mechanical rigging in accordance with OSHA requirements is preferred.

  • A working knowledge of equipment drawings and P&ID's, and mechanical seal drawings is preferred.

  • NCCER certification is a plus.

  • Millwright training on turbines, compressors, pumps and seals is a plus.
