Please Note: This is a part-time position and employees will work Tuesdays and Thursdays as needed in the Summer. Positions will be available at Canyon High School and Smithson Valley High School.

Primary Purpose:

Under general supervision, ensures the safety of children and staff at the pool by preventing and responding to emergencies.

Education / Certification:

* Hold current Lifeguard certification.

Experience / Other Requirements

* Previous experience as a lifeguard is preferred.

Special Knowledge / Skills:

* Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

* Skill in the application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques.

* Knowledge of CPR and emergency medical procedures.

* Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

* Maintains constant surveillance of children & staff in the pool area; acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of all individuals in the event of emergency.

* Alternates with fellow lifeguards between sitting in Lifeguard tower and walking around pool. No sitting.

* Knowledgeable of emergency procedures & provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.

* Presents professional appearance and attitude at all times

* Enforces safety rules. Intervenes when children are likely to injure themselves, each other, or property.

* Assists in the preparation and maintenance of materials & performs various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility.

* Performs job-related duties as assigned by Community Ed staff & SACC Leads.

* Communicates with and follows the directives of the SACC Leads while at the pool.

* Follows program procedures to safeguard the health and safety of the children in the program. These include but are not limited to hand washing, sanitary measures, pool safety rules, and rules regarding the use of supplies and equipment.

* Other duties as may be assigned.
