The First Bank and Trust Company is hiring a Regional Supervisor in the Agricultural Lending Division to work in Abingdon, Virginia.

The Regional Supervisor will play a pivotal role in managing and overseeing the agricultural lending activities in Southwest Virginia and East Tennessee. This position will lead a team of agricultural loan officers and support personnel, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, maintaining portfolio quality, and fostering relationships with agricultural customers. This position requires strong leadership skills, deep knowledge of agricultural lending practices, and a commitment to supporting the financial needs of rural communities.

The Regional Supervisor will manage the agricultural lenders and support personnel, developing and maintaining a high quality and profitable agricultural loan portfolio.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Leadership and Team Management:

  • Lead, mentor, and motivate a team of agricultural loan officers and support personnel to achieve performance targets and goals.
  • Provide guidance and support to loan officers in structuring, underwriting, and managing agricultural loans.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations, coaching sessions, and training programs to enhance team capabilities.

2. Portfolio Growth and Management:

  • Oversee the development and maintenance of a high-quality agricultural loan portfolio.
  • Monitor portfolio performance, identify areas of risk, and implement strategies to mitigate credit losses.
  • Ensure compliance with lending policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

3. Customer Relationship Management:

  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with agricultural customers, understanding their financial needs and providing tailored solutions.
  • Collaborate with loan officers to identify cross-selling opportunities and expand the bank's agricultural customer base.
  • Address customer inquiries, concerns, and requests in a timely and professional manner.

4. Market Analysis and Business Development:

  • Stay abreast of industry trends, market conditions, and competitive landscape in the agricultural lending sector.
  • Identify opportunities for business growth and expansion within the region, developing strategic plans to capitalize on market potential.
  • Collaborate with senior management to develop marketing initiatives, promotional campaigns, and product offerings to attract and retain agricultural customers.

5. Risk Management and Compliance:

  • Ensure adherence to internal risk management policies and procedures, as well as regulatory requirements related to agricultural lending.
  • Conduct regular audits and reviews to assess compliance with credit policies, loan documentation standards, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Take proactive measures to address any identified risks or compliance issues, implementing corrective actions as necessary.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, Business Administration, Agriculture, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in agricultural lending, with a demonstrated track record of success in loan origination, portfolio management, and team leadership.

MINIMUM SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Thorough understanding of agricultural production practices, market dynamics, and risk factors associated with agricultural lending.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess creditworthiness, evaluate financial statements, and mitigate credit risks.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with customers, colleagues, and stakeholders.
  • Proven leadership abilities, including team management, coaching, and performance evaluation.
  • Sound knowledge of regulatory requirements governing agricultural lending, including compliance with state and federal laws
  • Proficiency in financial analysis software, Microsoft Office Suite, and other relevant tools.
