We're seeking a proactive engineering professional who enjoys working with team members from all departments to help ensure our Aerospace customers’ new product launch success. Strongly-qualified candidates will have experience developing technical and product knowledge and are excellent communicators who understand how to ensure accountability and follow-through.

What You’ll Be Doing:

The project engineer’s objective is to plan and formulate technical projects and organize those involved according to project requirements. This person monitors expenditures on projects and reports status to management. Will maintain project schedule, monitor project progress compared to schedule and report status to management. Will also become familiar with and develop a good working knowledge of the manufacturing processes that the company uses to produce product. See attached description for details.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Others as assigned.

  • Direct, coordinate and exercise functional authority for planning, organization, control, integration and completion of engineering projects
    • New Product Implementation scheduling and planning.
    • Hold the New Product Launch process accountable to on-time completion and budgetary constraints. Report status and obstacles to meeting goals to management for resolution.
    • Oversight of product flow and costing for new products including: outside service, purchased components, and raw material.
    • Oversee the collection of all required data for the reporting of New Product Launch metrics.
    • Ensure that all reviews and critical communications between various resources in the New Product Launch process occur and are documented.
    • Works with internal departments to define internal schedules
    • Coordinate appropriate personnel who will have responsibilities for various phases of the projects(s)
  • Coordinate Corporate resources i.e. supply chain with purchasing, tool room, design
  • Act as primary non-commercial customer interface, including:
    • Product technical issues, such as tolerance and GD&T negotiation.
    • Coordination of customer prints in launch process.
    • Act as liaison between customer and internal resources.
  • Maintain and apply up-to-date knowledge of:
    • Manufacturing processes and methods
    • RFC intercompany department responsibilities and resources: equipment and capabilities, and records storage and flow of records
    • Customer specifications for Aerospace industry sectors and how they impact processes, i.e. heat treat, aging, fabrication and metallurgy.
  • Provide technical advice and assist in solving problems for cross-functional departments, willing to work hands on with manufacturing engineering.

Schedule: This exempt-level role will primarily work eight or more hours per day, five days per week based on business needs and will primarily be day-time hours but may occasionally work or travel nights or weekends as needed.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, technical, business and/or management.
  • Two or more years’ related experience in project management.
  • Five or more years’ experience in a manufacturing environment where experience is relevant – familiarity with technical/quality requirements.
  • Strong computer/technical skills including: Proficient in Microsoft office products, Microsoft Project or similar.
  • Ability and willingness to work on-site with a reasonable commute to Shelbyville, KY location and ability to travel domestically and/or internationally – up to 25% of time.
  • US Person as defined by ITAR/EAR.

Preferred:

  • 5-10 years’ experience in Aerospace industry
  • Quoting / estimating experience
  • Knowledge of ERP, SAP or other manufacturing software
  • Catia V5 experience
  • Ability to review technical specifications and implement required processes
