Job Summary:

This position is responsible for performing radiologic and other diagnostic imaging procedures to assist physicians and other licensed medical providers in diagnosing the disease and injuries of Oyate Health Center(OHC) patients.

Essential Functions:

  • Explains procedures to patients to reduce anxieties and obtain patient cooperation.
  • Prepares and positions patients for diagnostic imaging procedures.
  • Adjusts immobilization devices to obtain optimum views of the specified area of the body requested by the physician.
  • Moves imaging equipment into specified positions, and determines exposure factors based on height, weight, the portion of the body involved, and the degree of penetration required.
  • Adjust equipment controls to set exposure factors and produce images of proper detail, density, and accuracy.
  • Practices radiation protection techniques to minimize radiation to patients and staff.
  • Performs specialized and routine diagnostic radiology procedures.
  • Processes images and reviews for proper identification and quality control.
  • Prepares images for reading by radiologists or requesting physicians.
  • Performs routine maintenance, diagnoses malfunctions, makes minor repairs on radiologic equipment, and arranges for repairs as needed.
  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining the Quality Assurance/Quality Control programs required of the Radiology program.
  • Schedules appointment for patient examinations.
  • Completes forms and maintains records, logs, and reports of work performed.
  • Responsible for ordering and maintaining suppl;ies for the Radiology Department.
  • Maintain effective, collaborative interdepartmental and external relations.
  • Must comply with federal laws and regulations as required by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

Supervisory Controls

The supervisor provides continuing or individual assignments by indicating generally what is to be done, limitations, quality and quantity expected, deadlines, and priority of assignments. When there are new, difficult, or unusual assignments, the supervisor provides additional, specific instructions for including suggested work methods or advice on source material available. The employee uses initiative in carrying out recurring assignments independently without specific instructions, but refers deviations, problems, and unfamiliar situations not covered by instructions to the supervisor for decision or help. The supervisor reviews finished work to assure methods used are technically accurate and in compliance with instructions or established procedures. Review of the work increases with more difficult assignments if the employee has not previously performed similar assignments.

Guidelines

Guidelines include state and federal laws and regulations, OHC policies and procedures, OHC Medical Staff Bylaws, professional standards of medical practice, medical standing orders, and Centers or Medicare and Medicaid Services Conditions of Participation manual. These guidelines are not applicable to every situation encountered and require independent judgment, selection and interpretation in application.

Guidelines include GPTLHB, OHC, and department policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, and deviations must be authorized by the supervisor.

Complexity/Scope of Work

The work includes some variations, and may involve different and unrelated processes and methods. The decision regarding what needs to be done depends upon the analysis of the subject, phase, or issues involved in each assignment, and the chosen course of action may have to be selected from many alternatives. The work involves conditions and elements that must be identified and analyzed to discern interrelationships. Positions with this level of complexity include those that are specialized or technical in nature, or also included supervisory/management tasks. The work involves treating a variety of conventional problems, questions, or situations in conformance with established criteria. The work product or service affects the design or operation of systems, programs, or equipment; the adequacy of such; the social, physical, and economic well-being of people; or the social or economic well-being of the organization. This level of scope and effect is typically representative of work performed by para-professionals, clinical professionals, administrative specialists or technicians, and skilled trades positions within the organization.

Contacts

The personal contacts are with individuals or groups from outside the organization in a moderately unstructured setting. For example, the contacts are not established on a routine basis and the purpose and extent of each contact is different. Contacts are typically with clinical providers, patients/family members, employees, community resource agencies, various Health Departments, Tribal Health programs, and the general public.

Contacts are primarily for obtaining, furnishing, exchanging and providing factual medical information.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

The work involves moderate risks or discomforts that require special safety precautions, including exposure to contagious diseases. Employees may be required to use protective clothing, such as masks, gowns, coats, boots, goggles, gloves, or shields.

The characteristic demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Local and moderate out-of-town travel is required.

Supervisory and Management Responsibility

This is a non-supervisory position that may provide functional direction, guidance and instruction to other employees when necessary. This position possesses the authority to assign, coordinate, and review the quality and quantity of work of other employees. Instructs employees in specific techniques or technical methods for accomplishing work assignments. The employee may perform the same type of work as other employees but may be responsible for the performance of the more technically difficult, controversial, or sensitive work assigned to the unit or group.

Education/Experience/Certificates/Credentials

  • Graduate of an Accredited Program of Radiologic Technology and one (1) year of experience as a radiologic technologist.
  • Must have certification from the American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT).
  • Current BLS certification for health care providers.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal and background check and a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Preferred experience on multiple modalities of diagnostic imaging.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal and background check, and a pre-employment drug screen.
