Purpose of This Job:

The purpose of this job is to stock shelves, racks, cases, bins, and tables with fresh produce and arrange merchandise displays to attract customers. May periodically take physical count of produce or check and mark produce. May print and attach price tickets to items of produce.

Essential Functions:

  1. Answer customer questions about produce and advise customers on produce selection.
  2. Take inventory or examine produce to identify items to be reordered or replenished at Produce Managers direction.
  3. Stock shelves, racks, cases, bins, and tables with new or transferred produce.
  4. Responsible to ensure that produce department is clean, stocked, and well maintained at all times.
  5. Clean display cases, shelves, and aisles as needed or directed.
  6. Enters pricing information on tickets for shelf presentation.
  7. Compares printed price tickets with entries on purchase orders.
  8. Mark selling price on boxes or containers containing produce.
  9. Keep records of production, returned goods, and related transactions.
  1. Complies with all federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations.
  1. All other duties as assigned.

Equipment Used in the Job:

Barcode reader, point of service scanner, scales, electric jack, U-boat, produce carts, prep tables, knives, cleaning supplies, ticket-printing machine and dollies.

Educational Requirements:

Minimum of high school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED), preferred.

Experience Requirements:

Previous experience working in a produce department preferred but not required.

Reasoning Ability:

Addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages.

Language Skills:

Ability to comprehend instructions and directions.

Ability to comprehend written and verbal directions.

Ability to communicate with others (internal and external customers) to convey information effectively and professionally.

Typical Physical and Mental Demands of the Job:

Concentration, attentiveness, independent judgment and discretion, ability to manage multiple tasks, read and communicate instructions. Must be able to see, hear, and stand for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds manually.

Work Environment:

Standing for entire shift, minus breaks and meal periods. Exposed to changes in temperature while working in the freezer and coolers. Has the potential to be exposed to various degrees in temperature while working with employees in various areas of the market, including dock, stockroom, coolers, freezers and front area of the store.

Other Considerations:

Must be able to work effectively and interact professionally with internal and external customers.
