Are you passionate about shaping the future of humanity's presence in space? Lunar Outpost, a trailblazer in space robotics, invites you to join our team! Lunar Outpost is dedicated to creating a sustainable presence in space, while also driving positive impacts here on Earth. We are seeking a talented, experienced individual to help define the future of lunar surface mobility in a fast-paced startup environment. As a Lunar Vehicular Mechanical Engineer, you will collaborate with mechanical and interdisciplinary teams to develop cutting-edge technologies, including drivetrains, suspensions, vehicle chassis, payload interfaces, and more.  In this role, you will have the opportunity to interact with designs during all stages of development, from requirement definition through design and manufacturing all the way to end-use deployment.

Key: Responsibilities:

  • Fully research and understand interdisciplinary stakeholder input to new mechanical designs.
  • Extract relevant information from system requirement specification documents and interpret them in context of mechanical designs.
  • Use trade studies and similar tools to effectively evaluate competing designs and/or equipment under complex multi-faceted criteria.
  • Communicate design concepts clearly and effectively in context of typical aerospace review structures (SRR, PDR, CDR, etc.).
  • Create and manage designs for mechanical hardware, using best CAD practices for parts and assemblies to ensure robustness of complex designs.
  • Assist with rapid prototyping of designs to prove concepts quickly and with minimal budget impacts.
  • Assist with manufacturing plans for parts using a variety of manufacturing processes, including CNC milling, 3D printing, lathework, sheet metal bending, and water-jetting/laser-cutting.
  • Assemble engineering model (EM) and flight model (FM) hardware including COTS parts, custom parts and assemblies, electronics, sensors, payloads, etc.

Required Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of relevant mechanical engineering experience (automotive or vehicular experience a plus)
  • Bachelor’s (B.S.) degree from an accredited college or university in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Expertise in SolidWorks and proficiency in CAM software (HSMWorks or MasterCAM)
  • Proficiency in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) setup and interpretation
  • Proficiency operating CNC machines
  • U.S. Person

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong ability to integrate knowledge from various areas to solve complex problems
  • Demonstrate strong organizational and time management skills and written and oral communication skills
  • Proficiency in mechanism design and manufacturing and assembly processes
  • Experience in Bild, GrabCAD Workbench, Git, or equivalent
  • Demonstrate perseverance and tenacity to drive projects to completion
  • Experience in a similar role within the aerospace industry and/or a technology startup environment, including industry standards
