LOCATION: 2233 N. Burdick St., Kalamazoo, MI 49007 

REPORTS TO: Nick Asset Protection Manager 

POSITION TYPE: 

Full Time and Part Time Available 

SHIFT: Night Shifts & Weekends

POSITION SUMMARY: We are seeking a candidate to fill an Asset Protection Associate role. The ideal candidate will exhibit high levels of integrity, honesty, dedication, and a commitment to service. The team is responsible for ensuring the safety of all members of Cannamazoo staff, patients, vendors, contractors, and visitors. Further, the team must protect the real, physical, personal, intellectual, and private property of Cannamazoo and its subsidiaries. The ideal candidate will bring in-depth knowledge and experience about maintaining safe environments for people and buildings, with the confidence and comfort to work in a new, complex, regulated, and constantly evolving industry. RESPONSIBILITIES 

Responsibilities for Asset Protection 

  • Monitor campus and camera areas for potential threats 
  • Identify potential theft or vandalism among staff and patrons 
  • In some instances, monitor displays or Inventory rooms 
  • Report detailed information on suspected theft 
  • Document and report detailed information about theft or any other security violations 
  • Responds to emergency situations (Not Law Enforcement Related) 
  • Investigate and resolve safety concerns, issues, or violations 
  • Maintaining a safe work environment for employees and service providers and a safe retail environment for patients and for customers 
  • Collaborate with management to compile safety concerns, issues, or violations. 
  • Work closely with the Asset Protection Supervisors and Manager to make sure that all compliance requirements concerning video, record keeping, reporting, and storage compliance issues are met 
  • Be knowledgeable of all applicable laws and regulations 
  • Advise, make recommendations, and assist in the formulation of goals and objectives 
  • Contribute to a dynamic, collaborative, and positive team environment and culture 
  • Conduct staff protective security awareness campaigns and promotions 
  • Prepare reports and records for management team and regulatory officials 
  • Exercise independent judgment to carry out overall responsibilities and other activities as assigned 
  • Participate in implementing broad operational rules, regulations, policies, and procedures 
  • Ensure all segments of the company remains in compliance with security protocols and local and state regulations 
  • Enforce regular safety audits and routine checks of facilities 
  • Keep up with regularly changing rules and regulations and ensure understanding and implementation 
  • Other tasks as needed, or as per changes to the above list 

Other responsibilities include staying up to date on all Michigan medical marijuana laws; ensuring every customer’s ID gets checked by appropriate staff to prevent selling to underage Customers; Any experience in any licensed marijuana facility is preferred but is not a requirement. Preference will be given to candidates with a background in law enforcement and/or military. 

Qualifications for Asset Protection: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. 

  • Prior experience in loss prevention or educational background in loss prevention, or law enforcement is (preferred) but not required 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Superior observational skills 
  • Working knowledge of surveillance camera controls 
  • Ability to recognize unsafe working environments 
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends 
  • Willingness to attend meetings and training courses to improve skills 
  • Knowledge of safety processes and procedures 
  • Balanced and intuitive decision making and problem solving 
  • Training in de-escalation and non-violent problem resolution 
  • Ability to work in an environment that can be or become volatile, while remaining calm under pressure, and keeping a professional appearance 
  • A positive, confident, and approachable demeanor; connecting with people  
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills 
  • Effective oral and written communication skills with the ability to explain complex information and fact patterns in understandable terms to all levels of personnel 

Additional Requirements 

  • Minimum of 21 years of age 
  • Possess valid driver’s license or state ID 
  • Must remain compliant with all state and company rules and regulations 
  • Must be able to lift, carry, and balance up to 50 pounds. This job function may include walking or standing for extended periods of time, as well as stooping, bending over and/or crouching 

BACKGROUND CHECK:
