Now Hiring: Bilingual Public Health Nurse I or II - Maternal and Child Health

(Grant-funded)


The Bilingual Public Health Nurse I or II works directly with at risk populations, carries out health promotion programs at all levels of prevention, conducts basic data collection and analysis, and participates in field work including home visits and other community outreach activities. Specifically, this position provides case management to families with children (ages 0-23 years old) enrolled in the Children with Medical Handicaps (CMH) program. Fluent bilingual speaking and translation skills in Spanish, Somali, Haitian Creole or Nepali are required for this position. The position involves partial remote work.

 

Duties Include:

  • Assists families with needs and health care coordination regarding the CMH Diagnostic program, CMH Treatment program, and CMH Service Coordination program.
  • Conducts home visits with families and children from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, educational, racial, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Provides culturally appropriate translation services to Maternal and Child Health clients.
  • Evaluates and performs physical nursing assessments with pediatric clients that have various medical conditions.
  • Interacts with community agencies and the public on a regular basis via telephone communication, email, home visits, and community events.
  • Demonstrates public health nursing presence in the community through various forms of outreach pertaining to general health promotion, infant safe sleep education, and infant mortality surveillance among other topics.
  • Provides education and appropriate resources to parents, families, and community members pertaining to health conditions and other relevant public health topics.
  • Uses data related to the social determinants of health to provide and coordinate care for all clients.

                  

  • Accurately documents all case management and client contact in an Electronic Health Record System (eClinicalWorks) including using mobile technology for partial remote work and home visits.
  • Participates in other related duties as assigned including FCPH adult and child immunization clinics, COVID response duties and Emergency Response preparedness/training.

 

Requirements:

  • Current and unrestricted Ohio Registered Nurse license required.
  • Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited College of Nursing required; Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Fluent bilingual speaking skills in Spanish, Somali, Haitian Creole or Nepali speaking skills required.
  • Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI) certification required, or candidate will be required to complete the CCHI successfully during the first six months of employment. Equivalent medical interpretation certification may be accepted.
  • 2 years of pediatric, public health, or related nursing experience preferred.
  • Case management and home visiting experience preferred.
  • Experience using an Electronic Health Record System required.
  • Valid Ohio driver’s license required and ability to meet insurability requirements; some evening and weekend hours required.

 

Hiring Salary:

  • $27.96/hour - $32.15/hour for Public Health Nurse I
  • $29.79/hour - $34.26/hour for Public Health Nurse II
  • This is a non-exempt position.
