Position Details:
Registered Nurse-Surgery, Full-time, 36-40 hrs/week, 8 hour shifts but may vary to 10 hour shifts, Days, 0630-1500, Set schedule, Required Call (up to 50% of Department call)
Non-Exempt, Union, Hourly

Position Summary:
The Surgery Nurse is a member of the Surgery team. Provides nursing care and education to the surgical patient throughout a continuum from pre-op until post-anesthesia stabilization. Functions as the Circulating Nurse during surgery and as the Recovery Room Nurse during the post-anesthesia recovery phase. Assures surgical patient care is delivered as reflected in AORN standards of Peri operative Nursing Practice. Also provides care to Chemo-Bio therapy/Infusion patients as assigned during scheduled shifts. May occasionally assist in the Acute/Emergency Departments if work is reassigned by the Chief Nursing Officer or the Surgery/Chemo-Bio therapy Manager.

The Surgery Nurse is also a member of the Surgery and Code/Trauma/Rapid Response call teams. May be responsible for up to 50% of the OR/ED call. Expectation is response within 30 minutes from time called until arrival at hospital; however response is expected ASAP and 30 minutes is the outside limit, 15 minutes or less is preferred.

Requirements

Education:
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.

Licensure/Certification/Registration:

Current CPR certification. ACL. and NRP, and PALS are mandatory. CNOR certification is encouraged.

Experience:
One or more years of clinical nursing experience. Surgery nursing experience preferred.

Job Knowledge:
Responsible to understand and capable of implementing duties within the scope of rules and regulations of the Oregon State Board of Nursing and the Nurse Practice Act.

Skills:
Must function calmly and effectively in emergent situations and peak work times. Demonstrates positive and compassionate attitude toward patients and their families. Maintains confidentiality. Prioritizes patient care needs and unit needs appropriately. Functions as a positive team member with other hospital staff and physicians.
