Position Overview
The transportation manager will oversee a fleet of 20 - 25 trucks and drivers in two locations. The Transportation Manager should be decisive and well-organized. Carrying the responsibility of planning and managing operations across a large team of drivers and working closely with warehouse management team. They must gather and process information about the transportation network.
Responsibilities Include
- Ensures drivers and assets compliant with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies (i.e. DOT, OSHA, etc.)
- Maintains driver files and records both physical and using internal system
- Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive
- Handles discipline of employees as needed and in accordance with company policy
- Drafts and presents reports on department operations and expenses
- Develops and enforces procedures, policies, and safety protocols for all transportation employees
- Supervises the daily work and safety of all drivers, including adherence to planned routes, adherence to company policies, and providing safe and efficient customer service
- Works on corporate initiatives and meets deadlines
- Successfully engage and lead individual and team discussions and meetings
- Monitors driver's morale
- Train drivers to perform at the business' required standards
- Communicates with Sales Management, Customer Service, and Warehouse Distribution team to collaboratively resolve any customer or delivery issues and opportunities
- Suggests efficiency ideas, cost reduction measures and assists with implementation of delivery changes.
- Coordinates and approves required repairs and PMs with proper departments as necessary.
- Coordinate with driver on truck break downs
- Performs other related duties as required.
The ideal candidate will have
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of fleet management and operations including local, state and federal requirements
- Excellent managerial and supervisory skills
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to prepare and adhere to a budget and to monitor and reduce expenses
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree in related field preferred
- Valid CDL B License
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds at a time.
