Salary:

Coast Inn at Lake Hood is recruiting for two (2) Porters. These are full-time positions located in Anchorage, AK. This position reports to the Front Desk Manager.


JOB SUMMARY:

This position will be responsible for greeting visitors and guests with a friendly attitude and helping to carry luggage or other items as needed.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain a positive attitude with guests and other employees.
  • Maintain proper uniform and proper hygiene.
  • You must be in complete uniform prior to clocking in, do not clock in more than 5 minutes prior to your scheduled start unless asked to do so because of business level.
  • Greet the guests as they enter the lobby.
  • Assist the guests with their bags to their rooms.
  • Know the items that we will and will not store or freeze. Use the proper tags for either.  Lock up the item as soon as tagged.
  • Get guest items out of the storage or freezer, this requires the guest to have their portion of the tag on the item. At no time are guests to be given access to either the storage or freezer to pull their own items.  Take the guest copy of the tag and also remove the tag from the item itself when being picked up.  These go in the trash, not on the floor of the storage or freezer.
  • Keep the storage areas organized.
  • Learn to answer the phone to assist the Front Desk Clerk if they are busy or have to step away for any reason.
  • Learn the operation of the guest room TV’s, Heater/AC unit, etc.
  • When you leave the front lobby area, make sure the Front Desk Clerk is aware and carry a radio so to keep in contact.
  • Throughout the shift, walk the hallways periodically checking for refrigerators that need to be put away, pick up any trash, close any guestroom doors that are not closed tight, listen to loud guests and either report to the Front Desk or politely ask the guest to watch the noise level.
  • Walk the outside of the hotel, looking for trash, or other problems.
  • In the winter make sure to keep all entrances and walkways cleared of snow. Put ice melt down as needed and make sure that all emergency exits are cleared. 
  • Walk the property to ensure a safe environment for all our guests and staff.
  • Check entrances/exits and monitor potential troublesome behavior on property.
  • Lock all exit/entrance doors at 8pm that have a guest room key swiper for guest access. Make sure that these doors do not get propped open and left propped open by the guest.  Report any maintenance issues.
  • Keep the lobby area clean.
  • Keep coffee station stocked and cleaned.
  • Report any suspicious activity.
  • Know and understand the Emergency Procedures, and what to do in the event of any alarms or other issues. Know when to call a manager or maintenance, and know where to find those phone numbers.
  • To carry out and perform any other duties or projects assigned to you by a supervisor.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Unite Here! Union membership is required, and can be acquired at time of hire.
  • 6 months previous customer service experience preferred
  • Previous computer experience preferred
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service, to include assessing needs, meeting quality standards, and evaluating customer satisfaction
  • Strong conversational English language skills; ability to speak clearly and understand what is being said by others
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, to include effectively conveying information to others, and giving full attention to what other people are saying and taking the time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times
  • Able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms, legs, and moving the whole body, to include, but not limited to, sitting, walking, bending, squatting, stooping, twisting, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying, standing for long periods of time, and climbing and descending stairs; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of computer keyboard; to verbally communicate to exchange information; to see and hear within a reasonable range for an office/hotel environment with or without correction.
