Job Summary

The Consumer Underwriter I position requires an aptitude toward sales, analytics and problem solving. The ability to “Think outside the box” and creatively are a must. This position supports the Underwriting Manager with underwriting of consumer loan applications, reporting, relationship development and compliance.

The following essential duties do not cover an all-inclusive list of work requirements. Individuals will perform other job-related duties as assigned, including work in other areas to cover absences or otherwise balance the workload.

Essential Duties

  • Underwrite direct and indirect consumer credit applications received from internal relationship bankers and external indirect automobile dealerships.
  • Communicate lending decisions internally and externally.
  • Assist bankers with direct applications, understanding loan decisions and suggesting alternative products for customers.
  • Assist with collection efforts as needed. Contact assigned dealers to build personable relationships, ask for business and obtain commitments on approved applications.
  • Acts as internal sales, building and maintaining professional relationships with dealership employees and management.
  • May occasionally need to assist with funding, collections and other department related tasks.
  • Audit and review applications for credit and existing loans as required.

Competencies

  • Ability to review and understand financial data including credit reports, income documentation and related ratios.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to understand and adhere to government lending laws and regulations.
  • Ability to understand and follow bank lending policy.
  • Complete required annual continued education as assigned.
  • Must have high degree of attention to detail.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time, exempt position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Frequent evening and weekend work is required as job duties demand to assist customers and attend networking events.

Travel

No travel is expected for this position. Required Education and Experience: High School diploma or equivalent required. Minimum two (2) years of experience reviewing credit reports and income documentation and related ratios.

Requirements:

Preferred Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or a related field is preferred. Will consider applicants with an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Qualifications

Ability to learn and use job specific software. Evaluates and learns the technological skills necessary to efficiently and effectively perform the functions of this job. Develop clear, concise, and easy to understand documents using database, spreadsheet, word processing and/or desktop publishing software.
