Job Title: DX: Radiologic Technologist

Department: Imaging

Reports To: Wendy Collins


Job Summary: Employee will be responsible for a multitude of Dx radiography imaging exams. Employee will be knowledgeable and dedicated to radiation safety. Employee will provide excellent customer service to patients, visitors and staff with an emphasis on quality service and excellent patient care. Employee must be self-motivated and demonstrate ability to work as a team.



Job Responsibilities include:

  • Demonstrates thorough knowledge of Imaging department procedures and protocols.


  • Capable of setting acquisition factors for optimal image quality.

  • Capable of positioning patient for optimal images.

  • Capable of following Radiologist protocols for specific exams

  • Capable of evaluating images for quality.

  • Capable of accurately following physician's instructions.



  • Demonstrates thorough knowledge of Imaging department policies.


  • Consistently follows patient identification policy.

  • Understands the correct exam needed and patient factors

  • Documents any changes/variation to protocol on requisition.

  • Follows all P+P regarding use of ISTAT (per sites worked)



  • Understands the importance of and adheres to the Radiation safety policies for patients and staff.


  • Participates in staff meetings

  • Demonstrates proper shielding and collimation

  • Follows the Imaging pregnancy policy.



  • Completes ALL steps involved with the exam;


  • Documentation of patient history.

  • Documentation of tech info.

  • Exam entered/edited in computer.

  • Charges entered in a timely manner.

  • Paperwork PACS scanned into system.

  • Consistently updates exam status in a timely manner.

  • Follows the STAR principle ( Stop, Think, Act, Review)



  • Stock

  • Assesses stock levels and enters stock/pantry orders in computer system.

  • Shows knowledge and respect for stock volumes and the importance in regard to fiscal integrity.

  • Replenishes stock when low.

  • Check for expired supplies monthly.



  • Communication


  • Communicates with patients, staff, offices and physicians effectively and frequently.

  • Communicates any equipment malfunction with other staff and manager as necessary.

  • Documents equipment issues in the communication/service logbook for reference.

  • Provides out patients with thank you cards.

  • Demonstrates proper phone etiquette when answering , transferring or taking messages



  • Teamwork


  • Demonstrates willingness to adapt to changes in schedule and workload.

  • Acts in a confident, competent and courteous manner

  • Readily accepts responsibility.

  • Cleans rooms and replenishes low stock for next shift.

  • Maintains a clean and organized work area.

  • Offers assistance to other modalities whenever possible.

  • Willingness to help transport patients.



  • Customer Support



  • Greets and Introduces self to each patient

  • Follows AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank You)

  • Accommodates every patient and guest professionally and courteously.

  • Explains each procedure to patient in understandable terms and pleasant manner.

  • Provides attention, care, and comfort to patients.

  • Communicates/updates patient status frequently to patient and family.

  • Respects patient privacy

  • Follows HIPPA Guidelines

  • Capable of burning a CD and getting proper Release of Information consent



  • Equipment



  • Recognizes equipment malfunctions and initiates action to correct problem.

  • Able to enter an I-linq for equipment failure/software failure/image acquisition issues

  • Maintains competency on imaging equipment.

  • Capable of daily, monthly, semiannual QC testing (per site/shift)

  • Capable of using Meditech, PACS , vRad, Shiftwizard and other necessary computer programs



  • Infection Control


  • Performs proper hand Hygiene before and after each patient

  • Cleans equipment after each patient.

  • Understands and follows the precautions needed for isolation patients.



Requirements:

Education - Minimum of Associates degree, Radiologic Sciences program

Experience - Preference of two years' experience, but new graduates welcomed.

Licensure/Registry - ARRT credentials for diagnostic imaging and NYS license.

Physical Requirements - Must be able to push, pull, bend, safely transfer patients and ambulate without assistance.
