Requirements for Staff Accountant, General Accounting:

  • New graduate with up to two (2) years’ related experience in banking preferred, studying for the CPA a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business, or related field required with a concentration in accounting
  • Specialized bank finance/accounting education/training
  • Strong knowledge of Balance Sheet and accounts payable
  • Good understanding of accounting and GAAP
  • Knowledge of FISERV Prologue Accounting and Accounts Payable Systems
  • Proficient in:
    • English (reading, writing, grammar, and mathematics)
    • Interpersonal relations and communication skills
    • Organizational and process/project management skills
    • PC skills (including Microsoft Office)
    • Ability to lift items weighing 15 lbs. or less.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Performs various duties to support the Bank’s accounting, financial reporting, and control functions.
  • Maintains the Bank’s accounting systems for accounts payable, fixed assets, prepaid expenses, and accrued expenses, including related processing and reporting.
  • Reconciles Bank’s internal demand deposit accounts and general ledger balance sheet accounts.
  • Prepare roll forwards of prepaid expenses, fixed assets, investments, stockholder equity and allowance for credit loss.
  • Research and clear all discrepancies.
  • Prepares vendor checks utilizing Accounts Payable system.
  • Prepares journal entries and reconciliations for monthly general ledger close.
  • Assists with daily general ledger reconciliations.
  • Assists with preparation of documentation for the annual external audit and federal/state regulatory examinations by gathering requested materials.
  • Assists with various accounting related and special projects as assigned.
  • Assists with completion of quarterly and annual regulatory reporting, including the Call Report, SEC Reporting, Summary of Deposits, GUDPA, and supporting schedules.
  • Cross trains in order to perform back-up duties for Wire Department as required.
  • Cross train on preparing reconciliations of general ledger balances with correspondent banks such as the FHLB-NY, ACBB, PNC and M&T.
  • Abides by the current laws and organizational policies and procedures designed and implemented to promote an environment which is free of harassment and other forms of illegal discriminatory behavior in the workplace.
  • Cooperates with, participates in, and supports the adherence to all internal policies, procedures, and practices in support of risk management and overall safety and soundness and the Bank's compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinates specific work tasks with other personnel within the department as well as with other departments in order to ensure the smooth and efficient flow of information.
  • Communicates with management and staff personnel in order to integrate goals and activities.
  • Responds to inquiries relating to his/her area, or to requests from other Bank personnel, customers, etc., within given time frames and within established policy.
  • Maintains appropriate records and provides assigned reports.
