Summary

Fourth Street Day Care Center is looking for a lead classroom teacher. The ideal candidate will have a zeal and passion for Early Childhood Education and engaging children in age appropriate activities. As a lead classroom teacher, you are expected to have and/or engage in trainings to learn the following essential skills:
  • Clear depth of knowledge of the cognitive, social, emotional, and physical developmental patterns of children from birth-5 years of age
  • Clear depth of knowledge of developmentally appropriate practice (DAP) as it relates to the areas of room arrangement, curriculum planning, and lesson planning
  • Proficiency in the skills needed to individually evaluate young children and make appropriate recommendations when special need interventions are required
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with children, parents, and colleagues, and supervisors.
  • Maturity and good judgement needed in crisis situations


Duties

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Supervise, by sight and sound, all children in their care
  • Routinely play on the floor or small tables, as well as outside, in and around various play equipment with infants and young children
  • Ability to lift an infant or young child (up to 40 lbs) to a changing table or other adult level surface in order to change diapers and/or clothing or provide first aid and comfort.
  • Supervise and assist, as needed, children who are potty training and needing to use the bathroom
  • Use appropriate fine motor skills to assist children with completing a puzzle or game, turning a page in a book, and various other activities that require the full dexterity of an adult’s hands and fingers
  • Verbally respond to a child or adult when called to from a distance of up to 30 feet
  • Use proper enunciation when speaking in order to teach infants and young children to speak correctly and understand the English language.


Requirements

Job requirements include:
  • At least a CDA (Child Development Associates) or TCC in Early Childhood Education, or currently working towards earning a certification/degree
  • Ability to pass Bright from the Start background check
  • Past experience working with younger children
