Location: Opelousas, Louisiana
Job Type: Fulltime, Short Term Contract
Pay: $42/Hour


We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Occupational Therapist (OT) to join our team at a school in Opelousas, Louisiana. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with children and helping them overcome challenges to reach their full potential. As a School OT, you will collaborate with teachers, parents, and other professionals to provide comprehensive therapy services to students with various developmental, cognitive, and physical disabilities. Your role will involve assessing students' needs, developing individualized treatment plans, and implementing therapeutic interventions to enhance their functional abilities and facilitate participation in academic and social activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct assessments to evaluate students' fine motor skills, sensory processing, visual perception, and activities of daily living.
  • Collaborate with educational staff and parents to gather relevant information and develop appropriate goals and objectives for therapy.
  • Design and implement individualized treatment plans tailored to meet the unique needs and abilities of each student.
  • Provide direct therapy services to students through activities and exercises aimed at improving motor coordination, sensory integration, handwriting, self-care skills, and other areas as needed.
  • Monitor and document students' progress, adjusting treatment plans as necessary to ensure continued growth and development.
  • Provide consultation and support to teachers, aides, and other school personnel regarding strategies and accommodations to promote students' success in the classroom.
  • Educate parents and caregivers on therapeutic techniques and activities to reinforce skills learned in therapy and promote carryover at home.
  • Stay current with best practices, trends, and developments in the field of occupational therapy, participating in professional development activities as required.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.
  • Current state license to practice as an Occupational Therapist in Louisiana.
  • Certification from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
  • Previous experience working with children in a school setting preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of child development, sensory processing, and therapeutic techniques.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and communicate with parents and caregivers.
  • Compassionate, patient, and enthusiastic about making a positive impact on children's lives.
  • Ability to adapt interventions to meet the diverse needs of students with various disabilities and challenges.
