Virtual School Sign Language Interpreter

Location: Georgia, USA (Remote)
Job Type: Fulltime, Next School Year Contract
Pay: $32/Hour

We are seeking a Virtual School Sign Language Interpreter to provide support to students who are deaf or hard of hearing in virtual classrooms. This position requires fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and the ability to accurately interpret spoken language into sign language and vice versa in real-time. The ideal candidate will have experience working in educational settings and a passion for ensuring all students have equal access to education.

Responsibilities:

• Provide real-time interpretation of spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) for students who are deaf or hard of hearing during virtual classes.
• Ensure accurate communication between students, teachers, and other participants in virtual classrooms.
• Collaborate with teachers and other educational staff to facilitate the integration of students who are deaf or hard of hearing into virtual learning environments.
• Adapt interpretation style and techniques to meet the individual needs and preferences of students.
• Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
• Participate in training sessions and professional development opportunities to enhance interpretation skills and knowledge of educational best practices.
• Provide feedback to teachers and administrators regarding strategies for improving accessibility and inclusion for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
• Stay informed about relevant laws, regulations, and guidelines related to accessibility and accommodations for students with disabilities in educational settings.

Qualifications:

• Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) with demonstrated proficiency in interpreting spoken language into sign language and vice versa.
• Previous experience working as a sign language interpreter in educational settings preferred.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with teachers, students, and other stakeholders.
• Knowledge of educational best practices and principles of inclusive education.
• Ability to adapt interpretation techniques to meet the individual needs and preferences of students.
• Certification as a sign language interpreter preferred (e.g., RID certification).
• Comfortable using technology and virtual communication tools for remote interpretation.
• Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Bachelors degree in sign language interpreting, education, or a related field preferred.
