Position Summary

The Health Center Medical Director (HCMD) will work collaboratively with the WIC Services Manager, Lead Nurse, and Health Center Manager (HCM) to ensure the effective and efficient operations of the HC. The HCMD is also responsible for the operationally and administrative related portions of the Joint Commission, HRSA/UDS/PCMH compliance, and reporting, in addition to ensuring the Health Center’s compliance with HIPAA regulations.

Key Functions & Responsibilities

  • Promotes and manages physicians and mid-level practitioners in the delivery of evidence-based clinical care consistent with their specialties.
  • Responsible for promoting and fostering an atmosphere of teamwork and excellence among staff.
  • Supports agency compliance with policies and standards.
  • In conjunction with site leadership, plans monthly staff meetings.
  • Participates in coordinating site-specific provider scheduling and coverage.
  • Contributes to provider recruitment, orientation, and retention.
  • Actively participates in organizational goal setting and action planning through Studer processes including, but not limited to, the Leader Evaluation Management (LEM) tool, attendance, and participation at the Leadership Development Institute (LDI), Joint Site Visits, and other training as required.
  • Working on-site is an essential duty for the job. 

Supervision

  • Supervises activities of all health center providers (MDs, NPs, PAs). 
  • Provides on-site supervision, coaching, mentoring, and assistance to provider staff as needed.
  • Provides timely and accurate timekeeping in ADP System; monitors and regulates use of Paid Time Off.
  • Provides input and recommendations for promotions and/or performance improvement.
  • Precepts residents/medical students/advanced practice students and/or supervises and/or provides mentorship support to staff who precept the same.
  • Oversee clinic programs at a particular site.
  • Conducts probationary and annual evaluations of supervised staff.

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Demonstrated leadership with excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Physician in possession of a valid license to practice medicine in the state of Maryland.
  • Experience in the development and management of quality, risk, and utilization review processes.
