The primary function of the embedded psychologist position is to serve as a generalist for clinical service provision and consultation with International Affairs. The crucial functions of the embedded psychologist are to serve as a generalist with a student development focus, establish and maintain effective relationships, and maintain a presence of Counseling Center services within International Affairs. The professional home for this position will be with the university counseling center which is able to provide ongoing support, collaboration, and supervision as needed. This is a new position that will require program development, leadership, personal and programmatic flexibility, and the willingness to create and promote best practices in service delivery. Experience with providing clinical services to international students is strongly preferred. Additionally, the successful candidate will be a well-rounded professional who works comfortably both individually and as a team member in providing effective outreach and prevention programs. This is a 10 or 11 month position including non-contract and annual vacation leave. The position will remain open until filled.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provide time-limited counseling services, consultation, clinical assessment and triage services, some limited case management, and crisis interventions for the international student population. Prepare for sessions and maintain accurate and up-to-date records of clinical services, and provide group therapy and other clinical services relevant to this student population.
  2. Prepare for and provide outreach presentations and workshops. Serve on departmental, division, and university committees. Build a strong collaborative relationship with administration, faculty, staff, and students.
  3. Practice all responsibilities in accordance with ethical and professional standards and state laws and consistent with practice as a psychologist. Understand and comply with CAPS and university policies and procedures. Develop a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and strengths that come with being an international student. Effectively participate in administrative and professional activities (e.g., CAPS staff and division meetings/trainings, case conferences, peer consultations, professional development, etc.). Foster strong working relationships with co-workers, increase knowledge and develop new skills or abilities that contribute to effective service provision, contribute to the evaluation and improvement of both CAPS and International Affairs, use psychological assessment skills as needed, and other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  1. A Doctoral degree in Counseling or Clinical Psychology. Graduation from an accredited program is strongly preferred.
  2. Maintaining licensure in the state of Utah.
  3. Experience in a university counseling setting and/or experience in areas related directly to mental health needs in a college student population. Clinical work with international students is strongly preferred.
  4. Generalist base of knowledge and experience in counseling, and familiarity with developmental approaches to treatment and supervision.
  5. Experience with crisis and trauma work.
  6. Excellent interpersonal, community building, problem solving, decision-making skills, and a commitment to both being part of a team and personal well-being.
  7. Ability to work and coordinate with CAPS clinicians and to work effectively as an independent and self-motivated, professional staff member.
  8. Willingness and capacity to effectively use telehealth media.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience and interest in conducting group therapy.
  2. Experience in providing psychoeducational workshops relevant to the campus community.
  3. Experience with teaching and program development.
  4. Effective oral and written communication skills.
  5. Fluency in language other than English.
  6. Skills with technology (Word, Titanium, webpage development, etc.)
