The Surgical Coordinator Registered Nurse provides direct and indirect patient care within the Surgery Department setting and coordinates care and planning with all disciplines of the OR team.  He/she applies the nursing process to plan and implement the care of patients, including patient and family education and continuum of care planning.  The Registered Nurse must possess good communication skills and must be able to effectively communicate with physicians, peers, patients and families.  He/she works collaboratively with all members of the healthcare team to ensure quality car is delivered.

Reports to: Director of Surgical Services

Providing nursing care appropriate to the condition and needs of the patient
Consulting and collaborating with physicians and other healthcare professionals to provide care to patients
Establishing reviewing, revising and following the patient plan of care
Administering medications and treatments within the scope of practice for a Registered Nurse
Recording patient care activities including assessment, reassessment, and ongoing treatment notes within the patient's medical record
Using a variety of computer systems
Operating medical equipment used in the care of the patient
Providing patient and family education related to treatment, diagnosis, medications, discharge and self-care
Providing patient care following nursing standards of care in a manner that promotes excellent outcomes, avoids harm to patients, and promotes health and healing
The ability and willingness to follow established Standards of Performance
Assists with coordinating staff training/in-services/education and monitoring to ensure compliance
Equipment controller coordinates the correct equipment is working properly and ensuring that necessary equipment is scheduled and in correct room
Ensure sufficient staffing on a daily basis notifies staff of scheduling changes in a timely manner
Staffing coordinator and delegates tasks to individuals according to the activities required and staff competency.
Inventory Controller
Assists with managing labor cost by coordinating adequate staffing patterns according to the utilization of the area and keeping an open line of communication with Director of Surgical services
Assists with selection and hiring of staff
Maintains the OR Board and makes assignments due to the staffing needs,. Works with Surgeons on making sure all Rep's are called and available for cases they are needed on.


Minimum Education
Must possess an active RN license in the State of TN or hold a Compact State RN license with the intent to obtain a TN RN license within 30 days of hire
CNOR
Central Sterile Certification
Must have current BLS/CPR Certification
ACLS within one year of hire
PALS within one year of hire

Required Skills
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Certifications:
Basic Life Support (BLS)

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP)

Perioperative Nurse (CNOR)
Licenses:
Active RN license in the State of Tennessee
