The Middlesex Sheriff’s Office will be considering applicants for the following employment opportunity

Medication Assisted Treatment (“MAT”) Clinician

The Middlesex Sheriff’s Office (“MSO”) is seeking a qualified professional for the position of MAT Clinician at the Middlesex Jail & House of Correction located in Billerica, MA.  The MAT Clinician will provide treatment and support to assist patients in their recovery from addiction, assists with modifying problem behaviors; maintains standards of counseling practices in accordance with policies and procedures; participates as an interdisciplinary team member to advocate for positive clinical outcomes. This position reports to the Medication Assisted Treatment and Directed Opioid Recovery (“MATADOR”) Program Director and Health Service Administrator. Shifts and days off are subject to change based on operational needs.  This is a full-time, non-exempt position covered under a collective bargaining agreement (NEPBA, Local 525).   

Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Working with MATADOR program staff to ensure continuity of care;
  • Conducts individual counseling sessions, under supervision of the MATADOR Program, as scheduled and documents as required;
  • Facilitates treatment groups, under supervision, as scheduled and documents as required;
  • Maintains a patient caseload;
  • Responsible for initial assessments, as well as follow up assessments, for patients in the MATADOR Program;
  • Prepares an individual treatment plan for each assigned patient;
  • May act as a liaison between referral sources and patients;
  • Works with the Case Managers, Navigator Staff and other MSO Department Staff regarding the needs of the patient population;
  • Evaluates patient’s needs and determines if referrals to other programs or facilities is needed;
  • Insures all documentation regarding patient care, treatment and incidents are completed timely and in a clear, concise manner;
  • Complies with MSO organizational policies, procedures and performance improvement initiatives;
  • Responsible for ensuring that medical records for patients are in full compliance with company or clinic policies, federal and state laws and regulations at all times;
  • Performing other work as assigned by the MATADOR Program Director, MATADOR Nurse Manager, Director of Mental Health or Health Service Administrator.

Working Conditions:

        • Working in a correctional facility on weekends, nights and holidays;
        • Required to work over eight (8) hours depending on operational needs within the HSU;
  • Direct contact with inmates/detainees in a secure correctional setting;
  • Standing and walking for prolonged periods of time;
  • May encounter verbal and physical abuse from offenders who are under physical and/or emotional stress. 

The individual selected for the position of MAT Clinician shall be cognizant of the confidential and sensitive nature of working in a law enforcement agency and must comply with all institutional rules regarding safety and security.

Qualifications: 

  • Master’s Degree; Post-graduate experience is preferred;
  • Must have one of the following licenses; LMHC, LCSW or LICSW and one year (1) of clinical experience preferred;
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and execute close attention to detail;
  • Strong written, communication, organizational, problem-solving and time-management skills;
  • Ability to maintain comprehensive and cohesive records. 

In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.  Must be a Massachusetts resident, have an active valid driver’s license and the right to legally operate a motor vehicle in Massachusetts and pass a criminal background check.
